Emotions are part of being human. πŸ’™

As the week comes to an end, you might notice a mix of emotions showing up. Relief, exhaustion, joy, frustration, gratitude, or even uncertainty. It's okay if they all exist at the same time.

Rather than trying to push emotions away, try becoming curious about them.

Emotions can:
πŸ’™ Help protect us
πŸ’™ Show us what matters
πŸ’™ Strengthen our connections with others
πŸ’™ Help us learn, adapt, and grow

Remember, emotions provide information. We don't have to act on every emotion, but we can learn from what it might be telling us.

As you head into the weekend, take a moment to check in with yourself: What emotion is most present for you today, and what might it be trying to tell you?

🌿 DBT Skill Spotlight: Radical Acceptance 🌿

One of the most misunderstood DBT skills is Radical Acceptance.

Many people might think it means pretending everything is okay, dismissing your emotions, or accepting harmful behaviour. It doesn't.

Radical Acceptance is about acknowledging reality as it is in this moment, even when it's painful or unfair. It means saying, "This is what has happened," instead of using all your energy fighting the fact that it happened.

It does not mean: β€’ You approve of what happened. β€’ You agree with it. β€’ You stop feeling angry, sad, or hurt. β€’ You shouldn't set boundaries or make changes.

It does mean: ✨ Making space for your emotions. ✨ Letting go of the struggle against reality. ✨ Conserving your energy for what you can control. ✨ Taking your next step with greater clarity and intention.

Suffering can increase when we continue to fight against reality rather than acknowledge it.

Acceptance isn't giving up - it creates space to respond more effectively and can be an important step in the healing process.

Progress does not have to be dramatic to matter.

Growth is sometimes quieter than we expect - small steps, increased awareness, asking for support, or simply taking things one day at a time can all be meaningful.

Therapy can offer a space for reflection, understanding, and growth at your own pace.

πŸ’¬ Have you tried this before?

The 5-4-3-2-1 grounding technique is a simple way to bring yourself back to the present moment when things feel overwhelming.

It gently guides your attention through your senses to help slow things down and create a sense of calm.

It’s one I often share with clients because it’s practical and can be used in many different situations.

✨ Save this for when you need it
