When winter arrives, it’s easy to stay indoors under blankets, but fresh air, movement, and active play remain so important for children’s physical and emotional development.

Running, jumping, balancing, and exploring outside helps:
• Build strong muscles and coordination
• Boost mood and energy levels
• Support healthy immune systems
• Improve focus and sleep

Why does toe-walking happen?

There are a few possible reasons why toe-walking occurs. In many children, it starts as a habit during early walking development.

It can also be related to tightness in the calf muscles or Achilles tendon.

Sometimes, toe-walking is linked to sensory processing differences or, less commonly, neurological conditions.

What is toe-walking?

Toe-walking is observed when a child walks on the balls of their feet, without their heels touching the ground.

Instead of rolling through the full foot when stepping, the child stays up on their toes while walking.

While it can be part of normal development in very young children, persistent toe-walking may sometimes be indicating something else.
