Radical Impact

Radical Impact Welcome to reach out for more questions. I am a narrative practitioner based in Pretoria, offering both in-person and online sessions.

Here you'll find insights into narrative therapy, reflections on life through a narrative lens, and resources for those navigating identity shifts, relationship dynamics, or life transitions. I am part of Signo Professionals, and my work is grounded in Pastoral Narrative Therapy—an approach that honours people as meaning-makers of their own lives and recognises the sacredness of story. My journey

into narrative therapy began as more than an academic pursuit; it became a personal encounter with the powerful wonderfulness that emerges when people are invited to reclaim authorship of their lives. Through my studies in Pastoral Narrative Therapy, I came to deeply believe that every person carries within them the capacity for change, renewal, and hope—even when life’s stories feel heavy, fragmented, or limiting. As a part-time practitioner, I intentionally create spaces where individuals and groups can pause, reflect, and gently explore the stories shaping their lives. These are spaces of collaboration rather than expertise—where we listen carefully to lived experiences, name the influence of problems, and reconnect with values, faith, and preferred ways of being. Together, we attend to glimmers of hope, uncover stories that may have been silenced, and reauthor identities that honour dignity, resilience, and possibility. My pastoral lens invites attentiveness to spirituality, meaning, and relationship, while remaining respectful of each person’s unique worldview and pace. Each session is an invitation:
to discover new meanings,
to strengthen relationships,
and to explore what becomes possible when stories are deconstructed, re-imagined, and held with compassion. It is a privilege to walk alongside people as they reclaim their stories and step more fully into lives that reflect who they truly are.

🚦 When Emotions Become Traffic Controllers...

Imagine driving through a city during a storm.

The rain is heavy.
The roads are busy.
The lights ahead suddenly turn red.

Most of us would never speed through a red light without slowing down first.

Yet when anxiety, stress, overwhelm, or fear arrive, we often expect ourselves to keep moving as if nothing is happening.

What if our emotions are more like traffic lights than roadblocks?

🔴 Red Light: Pause
When emotions feel intense, stop long enough to notice what is happening within you.

Instead of asking, "What's wrong with me?"
Perhaps ask:
"What is this emotion trying to draw my attention to?"

🟠 Amber Light: Get Curious
Amber invites reflection rather than reaction.

What story is influencing this feeling?

Is this my emotion?
Or am I carrying someone else's fear, anger, disappointment, or anxiety?

Narrative Therapy reminds us that we can become so connected to others' stories that we sometimes struggle to separate their emotional experience from our own.

🌱 Green Light: Choose
Green does not mean the emotion disappears.

It means you are no longer allowing the emotion to drive the vehicle.

You can choose your next step based on your values, hopes, and intentions rather than the demands of fear, anxiety, or overwhelm.

The traffic light does not tell the road where to go.

It simply helps create enough space for safe movement forward.

Perhaps our emotions can serve a similar purpose.

Not as dictators of our lives, but as signals inviting awareness, reflection, and intentional action.

💭 Reflection Question:
When was the last time you stopped long enough to ask:
"Is this feeling part of my story, or am I carrying a piece of someone else's?"

✨ You are not your emotions.
✨ You are not responsible for carrying everyone else's emotional load.
✨ You can listen to emotions without surrendering your voice to them.

What if therapy isn’t a place you come to be understood…
but a place where you finally stop being misunderstood — even by yourself?

Not a room with answers.
Not a space where someone studies you.
Not a quiet fixing station for what feels “too much.”
But something else entirely.

A place where the story that has been speaking about you
slowly loses its authority.
And another voice — softer, often forgotten —
begins to take up space.
In this room, I am not the expert of your life.
I don’t hold a map to who you are.

I don’t interrupt your story to correct it.
I don’t shrink it into something more “manageable.”

I sit with you at the edge of it.
Curious.
Respectful.
Unrushed.

You might arrive with a story that feels loud, heavy, absolute.
“I am anxious.”
“I am broken.”
“This is just who I am.”

And then… something subtle begins to shift.
We start asking different questions.
Questions the problem never thought to ask.
Questions that loosen its grip.

Until one day, almost unexpectedly,
you notice:
You are not inside the story.
You are in relationship with it.

And that changes everything.

Because authors don’t just live inside stories.
They shape them.
They challenge them.
They rewrite them.
And maybe…they were never as powerless as the story suggested.

This is what you can expect in the therapy room.

Not answers.
Not judgement.
But space.
Witnessing.
And the quiet, radical return of authorship.

🌿 In our lives, the stories we tell about ourselves shape how we see the world and our place in it. Life’s challenges often come with powerful stories—some that limit us, others that inspire us. As a narrative therapist, my work is about listening, noticing, and co-creating stories that empower, heal, and open up new possibilities.

✨ I believe that when stories are shared, they have the power to reach, inspire, and transform. If my work resonates with you, I would deeply appreciate your support—please like and share my Social Media page so we can connect with more people seeking space for reflection and growth:

🌿 Rewriting the Story of Therapy

There is a story many of us have been taught about therapy…

That it’s only for when things are really bad.
That the therapist is the expert who will diagnose or fix you.
That something inside you is broken.

But what if that story is incomplete?

✨ Narrative therapy offers a different path.

Instead of asking “What is wrong with you?”
We begin asking “What has happened to you?”
And… what stories have shaped how you see yourself?

🌿 In many traditional approaches:
• The therapist is the expert
• Focus is on diagnosis and symptoms
• The problem can feel like it lives inside you

🌿 In narrative therapy:
• You are the expert of your own life
• We walk alongside you, not ahead of you
• The problem is separate from you — you are not the problem
• We explore your values, strengths, and “sparkling moments”

🕊️ Therapy becomes a space where your voice is heard, your story is honoured, and new meanings can begin to unfold.

✨ Reclaiming the Author Within

There are moments in our lives where it feels as though the story has been written for us—where cracks appear, pieces fall away, and we are left wondering who we are beneath it all.

But what if those cracks are not signs of breaking…but openings?

In this image, we witness something powerful: a person quite literally opening themselves, revealing a glowing pathway within. From a narrative therapy perspective, this invites us to become curious about the preferred stories that often live just beneath the surface—stories that may have been overshadowed by pain, struggle, or dominant narratives.

🌿 Sparkling moments are those brief, often overlooked experiences where something different happens—where strength, courage, hope, or possibility quietly shows up. They are the golden threads within us.

And when we begin to notice them…to name them… to honour them…

We begin to reclaim authorship of our lives. Almost like a superpower.

Because authorship means:
✨ Choosing which stories to give power to
✨ Rewriting meanings that no longer serve you
✨ Stepping into the version of yourself that has always been there—waiting

Perhaps the question is not “What is wrong with me?” but rather…“What is trying to emerge through me?”
