The physical battle might be over, but the emotional healing is just beginning. 🌸

When breast cancer treatments end, survivors expect to celebrate. But for many, this is exactly when the emotional weight hits. Depression after breast cancer is real, valid, and incredibly common.

If you are surviving the cancer but struggling with your mental health, please know this: You are not weak. You are healing from trauma.

✨ Your feelings are valid. Changes in your body and hormone therapies directly impact your mood.
✨ The "all-clear" doesn’t instantly cure the mind. It is normal to feel sadness after active treatments stop.
✨ You don't have to carry this alone. True strength is reaching out when the burden gets too heavy.

Mental healthcare is a vital part of cancer recovery. Give yourself the same grace and patience you gave your body during treatment.

👉 Share this to remind a survivor that they are not alone.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 🌸🎗️

As a clinical psychologist, I frequently witness how a breast cancer diagnosis changes a person’s world in an instant. While medical plans focus heavily on healing the physical body, taking care of your mental and emotional health is just as vital to your recovery.

Early detection saves lives. Knowing your body, performing regular checks, and prioritizing routine breast screenings are critical steps. But as you navigate those vital appointments, please remember to hold space for your mind:

💓 Acknowledge the Weight: Feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or angry is a completely valid response to a diagnosis. Give yourself permission to feel.

🗣️ Seek Specialised Space: Lean on an oncology counselor or clinical psychologist to help process the complex trauma and life changes that come with cancer.

🤝 Gather Your Network: Surround yourself with a safe inner circle—friends, family, and support groups who let you show up exactly as you are.

Awareness leads to action, and action saves lives.

Take a moment today to check in on your physical health, and remember to gently nurture your emotional well-being too. 🧠💖

Anxiety is rarely just about uncertainty and the unknown.

It lives in the gap between the demands of an uncertain moment and our belief in our ability to handle them.

When we are caught in an anxious cycle, our minds tend to do two things simultaneously:

1️⃣ Overestimate how bad a situation could be.

2️⃣ Underestimate our own capacity, resources, and track record of surviving hard things.

True relief doesn’t come from trying to control or predict the future—that’s a race we can't win. It comes from shifting the internal narrative. Moving away from "I need to know exactly how this turns out" and moving toward "Whatever happens, I have the capacity to navigate the next step."

Take a deep breath today. You are far more equipped than your anxious thoughts are leading you to believe. ✨

The Surprising Effects of Gratitude on the Brain & Mood

As we get ready to step into 2026, many of us are setting big goals:
✨ better health
✨ more productivity
✨ less stress
✨ more happiness

But neuroscience suggests that one simple daily habit can support all of these at once:
GRATITUDE

What gratitude does to your brain:
Activates the prefrontal cortex, improving emotional regulation and perspective
Boosts dopamine and serotonin (your brain’s natural mood enhancers)
Reduces activity in stress circuits like the amygdala
Strengthens neural pathways linked to resilience and optimism

The surprising part?
Gratitude doesn’t just reflect happiness — it actually creates it.
Just like a muscle, gratitude grows with repetition. The more you practice it, the more your brain learns to look for what’s working instead of what’s missing.

If you do ONE thing consistently in 2026… let it be this:
Train your gratitude muscle.

Small moments. Daily practice. Real brain change.

How to Start Practicing Gratitude:
You don’t need long journaling sessions or forced positivity.
Try one or two of these:

1️⃣ The 30-Second Gratitude Scan
Once a day, ask:
What went right today—even a little?
What did I get through?
What helped me cope?

2️⃣ Specific Beats Big
Instead of “I’m grateful for my family,” try:
“I’m grateful for the message I received this morning.”
Specificity strengthens the brain effect.

3️⃣ Pair Gratitude With a Habit
Attach it to something you already do:
Morning tea or coffee
Brushing teeth
Bedtime phone scroll
One grateful thought = enough.

4️⃣ Gratitude in Hard Moments
This isn’t toxic positivity. Try:
“This is hard and I’m grateful for the support / skill / strength helping me through it.”
Both can coexist.

A Gentle New Year Reframe for 2026
Instead of asking: How can I fix myself this year?
Try: How can I train my brain to notice what sustains me? Because a grateful brain is calmer, more hopeful and better equipped for change.

Consistency beats intensity.
One grateful moment a day can quietly reshape your year.

Dear Matrics, you’ve got this.

Calm, courage, and quiet strength...
It’s a reminder that even in the middle of exams, you can still find moments of peace.

These weeks may feel long, but they’re just a small part of your bigger story. Every page you turn, every paper you write, brings you one step closer to the future you’ve been working for.

Remember: success isn’t about perfection — it’s about persistence. It’s about showing up even when you’re tired, believing in yourself even when doubt whispers louder.

Take breaks. Breathe deeply. Trust what you’ve learned.
And when you walk into that exam room, walk in with quiet confidence — because everything you need is already within you. 💫

The mountain you’re climbing right now may feel steep, but it’s shaping you in ways you can’t yet see. The view at the top will be beautiful — not just because of where you arrive, but because of who you become on the way up. 🏔️

You are ready. You are capable. You are enough.

💬 "It’s not time that dims the spark — it’s the loss of feeling safe, seen, and understood."

In couples counselling, we often see partners who still love each other deeply but feel distant, frustrated, or disconnected.
It’s rarely because they’ve “fallen out of love.” More often, it’s because their emotional safety has been shaken, and their ability to tune into each other has faded under the weight of stress, life changes, or unresolved hurts.

Through guided conversations, practical tools, and a focus on emotional attunement, we work together to:
❤️ Rebuild safety and trust
🗝 Unlock deeper understanding
🔥 Restore intimacy and passion

Because when you feel secure with each other, connection and desire can thrive — no matter how many years you’ve been together.

📍 Couples therapy isn’t about pointing fingers — it’s about finding your way back to each other.

Grief Is Love With Nowhere to Go

Grief is often misunderstood. It’s not just pain or sadness. At its core, grief is love that no longer has a place to land.

When someone we cherish is gone—whether through death, distance, or a painful goodbye—our love doesn’t simply vanish. It lingers. It waits. It aches. The routines we built around that person, the conversations we long to continue, the care we once gave freely—these now have no clear direction. And that’s where grief lives: in the space where our love has nowhere to go.

This is why grief feels so consuming. It’s not a weakness. It’s not something to “get over.” It’s a testament to our capacity to love deeply. To be attached. To have built something meaningful.

As a psychologist, I often remind those I support: your grief is not a problem to fix. It’s a reflection of your connection, your humanity, your heart. And while the form of that love may change, its presence remains.

With time, that love can take new shapes—through storytelling, remembrance, legacy, or the quiet honoring of what was. In this way, grief becomes a transformation of love, not the end of it. The love is not gone—it changes shape. It lives in tribute, in legacy, in who we become because we loved and lost. But in the early days, it’s okay for it to simply exist as sorrow. That too is sacred.

If you’re grieving, be gentle with yourself. You are loving, still—even in your pain.

You're not alone.

19/03/2025

explains as an issue of dysfunctional memory storage. When a person experiences a traumatic event, the brain struggles to process it properly. Instead of being stored as a typical memory, the trauma remains "stuck" in its raw, unprocessed form—often with the same emotions, sensations, and distress as when it first occurred.

Key Aspects of the Trauma Model:

1. Unprocessed Memories – Trauma is stored in a fragmented way, leading to flashbacks, intrusive thoughts, or emotional distress when triggered.

2. Overactive Amygdala – The fear center remains hyperactive, keeping the body on high alert (fight-or-flight mode).

3. Impaired Prefrontal Cortex – Rational thinking is weakened, making it hard to process or move past the trauma.

4. Dysfunctional Hippocampus – Memory integration is disrupted, causing gaps, distortions, or difficulty distinguishing past from present threats.

5. Nervous System Dysregulation – The body remains stuck in panic (hyperarousal) or numbness (dissociation).

EMDR helps by stimulating bilateral brain activity (through eye movements, tapping, or sounds) while recalling traumatic memories. This allows the brain to reprocess the trauma safely, integrating it into long-term memory so it no longer triggers intense emotional reactions. Essentially, EMDR enables the brain to "unstick" trauma and file it away as a past event rather than a present threat.
