There is much excitement about Lenacapavir, the 6 monthly injection to prevent HIV, with good reason. However Lenacapavir does not prevent pregnancy and other STIs like chlamydia, and gonorrhoea as examples.

Yes I said it! gonorrhoea (drop) as it happened to Matipa and Joyce in The Polygamist.

And yes it is true that gonorrhoea tends to not produce any symptoms in women. Untreated, it can have dire complications.

The screening of The Polygamist is timely, seeing that the excitement of Lenacapavir could make the community less vigilant about other prevention measures like;
1. being faithful to one partner,
2.abstaining or delaying s*x, and
3. using condoms etc….

On the 28th of May I was in Francistown, Botswana to facilitate a session on cervical cancer prevention focusing on HPV basics and HPV DNA testing. We also spent time on the available self collection methods and gadgets as well.

It was inspiring to find nurses, general practitioners, lab technicians, lab scientists, physicians, gynaecologists, and surgeons under one roof united for the common purpose of eliminating cervical cancer! They were so eager to implement HPV DNA testing at once. We were hosted by Hospital and Botswana l. Thank you Roche for making this possible.

The highlight🤩; at the end of the session, a colleague did a vote of thanks and mentioned that he was pressed to take a bathroom break during the session, but didn’t for fear of missing out😊. The local engineer shared that he was able to follow from beginning to end☺️.
