Cizelle Louw Clinical Psychologist Cizelle Louw is since 1990 a Clinical Psychologist practicing in Pretoria, South Africa. I am a Clinical Psychologist in private practice since 1990.

Becoming a Clinical Psychologist involves academic training at a university for at least five years (attaining Bachelors, Honours and Masters Degrees) and completing an internship at a state psychiatric hospital. I have studied at the University of Stellenbosch and did my internship at Weskoppies Hospital where I was trained to work with conditions such as Bipolar Mood disorder, Major Depression,

Anxiety and a wide range of psychopathology. Since 1990, when I started my own practice, I have attended many courses and was trained in various treatment modalities, such as clinical hypnotherapy and Solution Focused Brief Therapy. I currently work with children up to the age of twelve, adults (18 years +) as well as couples. One of my main goals as a psychotherapist is to utilize my clients’ skills, resources and strengths. I believe that this is an essential part of helping them to fight their demons. This is supported by extensive research which has shown that 40% of the success of therapy lies in the clients’ own resources, 30% in the relationship between the therapist and client, 15% in the hope that the client has to recover and only 15% in the therapist’s methods and techniques. I have a special interest in domestic violence. I am in the process of writing a novel about a family where domestic violence had many consequences from one generation to the next. One of the themes of this story is that there is hope. I am writing this in Afrikaans and wish to find a publisher who will publish this book at some point in English. Twenty four years of private practice (and being privileged to see many “miracles” happening in my clients’ lives) have taught me to have so much hope!

Hoe bevoorreg is ek ... Geen haas, net rustig in my tuintjie wees, kyk vir die voëls wat kom eet, luister hoe hulle gesels en die plante se groei waardeer. Mens kan jouself so maklik kis werk in die tuin en dan nie tyd maak om jou harde werk te geniet nie. Semi-aftrede werk vir my!
