Does test day always seem to surprise the same few students? If so, comment 300 for the link to this intervention.

Some kids don't struggle because they can't do the work...they struggle because they don't know how to plan for it.

They forget when the test is. They wait until the night before. They don't know who to ask for help. Then they get overwhelmed and shut down.

Instead of reminding them over and over, I've started teaching them to make a simple game plan.

This little planning sheet walks students through thinking ahead, deciding what they'll do to prepare, identifying who can help them, and checking in on their own progress. It's a small shift, but it helps build the executive functioning skills we wish every student had.

This is just one of the 300+ practical behavior and executive functioning supports inside my Behavior Survival Intervention Toolkit. Everything is designed to help students become more independent while making classroom management just a little easier for us.

If you're tired of hearing "I forgot" or "I didn't know we had a test," type 300 below and I'll send you the link to it.

How often does your child want to show you something but you are too busy?

I get it, that was me (and can still be me on some occasions) but I have become more intentional about not missing these bids of connection or affection.

It changed how I show up for them. I am not annoyed when they want to show me something because I know that's how they connect with me.

If I am in the middle of something I say "Can you give me a min to finish this, I want to make sure I am giving you my full attention as you explain your drawing to me".

Have you noticed this in your home as well? Are you often missing your child's bids of connection?

I learned about this from the Gottman books for relationships. It made me realize that the same was important in our relationship with our kids. If you love reading but don't have time, let me do it for you! Join our book club for parents where I read the books, write my thoughts and reflections and share them with you.

Dear friends and colleagues,
I am currently recruiting caregivers of young children (2-7 years) to participate in my doctoral research on the development of an early childhood, child sexual abuse prevention education toolkit. The aim of the study is to help create a practical, evidence-informed resource that will support caregivers in teaching young children age-appropriate body safety, boundaries, consent and help-seeking skills.

If you know any caregivers who may be interested and eligible to participate, I would greatly appreciate it if you could circulate the attached invitation within your networks.

By sharing their perspectives, participants will contribute to the development of a resource that may help strengthen child sexual abuse prevention efforts and support safer environments for children.

Thank you for helping me reach potential participants and contribute to this important research.

If your child constantly interrupts, try teaching them to quietly place a hand on your arm, shoulder, or knee when they need your attention.

Without stopping your conversation, place your hand over theirs to let them know: I see you. You're next.

When you're finished, turn to them and give them your full attention.

This simple strategy helps children practise waiting while knowing they haven't been forgotten. A small change that helps children learn how to join conversations successfully.
