It is a regional Hospital of the Gauteng Department of Health, responsible for providing basic public healthcare services to the people of Mamelodi and the surrounding area. The hospital was established in 1981 as a community health centre and was upgraded to a regional hospital in 2010. It offers a range of services, including a 24 hour emergency department, and has undergone recent upgrades, including the extensions of wards and refurbishment of units such as radiology and casualty units. Mamelodi Regional Hospital has also been declared as the first hospital in Gauteng to meet National Health Insurance (NHI) standards.

Tshwane District Health Services hosted an exciting soccer and netball tournament, bringing together hospitals and clinics across the district.

The Mamelodi Regional Hospital (MRH) soccer team delivered an impressive performance, winning four games and securing a place in the final against Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Despite their great effort, MRH lost 2–0 to EMS in the final. Congratulations to our team for their outstanding performance and determination throughout the tournament!

[IN PICTURES] Today, we celebrated Eye Care Awareness under the theme “Love Your Eyes.”

We kicked off the morning with an energetic fun walk, followed by an exciting aerobics session, promoting physical wellness and healthy living.

As part of our commitment to community health, we conducted eye screenings for learners from three of our neighbouring schools: Mveledzo Primary School, Tlakukani Primary School, and Phateng High School. Community members also benefited from eye screening services, helping to raise awareness about the importance of regular eye check-ups and early detection of eye conditions.

Through this initiative, MRH continues to promote eye health and encourage everyone to take proactive steps towards protecting their vision.

[In Pictures] Mamelodi Regional Hospital (MRH) celebrated Mental Health Awareness by bringing together different hospitals and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) to support and promote mental health awareness. The event aimed to educate staff together with community about mental health, encourage open conversations, and reduce the stigma associated with mental health conditions.

One of the highlights of the event was a drama performance by MRH staff, which portrayed issues relating to mental health. The performance helped raise awareness, promote understanding, and emphasise the importance of supporting individuals experiencing mental health challenges.

The event highlighted the importance of collaboration among healthcare institutions, NGOs, and communities in promoting mental well-being and ensuring that people affected by mental health conditions receive the care, understanding, and support they need.

[In Pictures] MRH Heritage Day came to life as staff from different cultural backgrounds came together to celebrate and showcase their diverse cultures and heritage.

The celebration provided an opportunity for everyone to embrace and appreciate different traditions, customs, music, food and attire. Staff thoroughly enjoyed the cultural exchange, creating a spirit of unity, inclusivity and togetherness while learning from one another.

[In Pictures] As part of Wellness Wednesday, Mamelodi Regional Hospital (MRH) honoured Tsontso by embracing her and support all women whose lives have been tragically lost to gender-based violence (GBV).

The theme for the day was "All Black Sportwear", with staff wearing black sportswear as a symbol of remembrance, solidarity and support for all women affected by GBV.

Staff members also participated in a morning walk, promoting physical activity, wellness, team spirit, and a healthy lifestyle.

[In Pictures] 📚 Celebrating the Joy of Reading During National Book Week with Ms Qhawe Mazaleni (Miss South Africa 2025) 📚

The Hospital CEO, Dr Naing Soe, together with management, warmly welcomed Miss South Africa, Ms Qhawe Mazaleni, and accompanied her to the Paediatrics Department.

Having previously served the Mamelodi community as a Speech Therapist at the hospital, Ms Mazaleni returned to give back and inspire our young patients through the joy of reading. 📖✨

During her engaging session with the children, She encouraged children to embrace reading, use their imagination and, most importantly, write their own stories - reminding them that every child has a story to tell.

Ms Mazaleni also brought toys for the children, spreading smiles and making her visit extra special. 🧸🎁

A beautiful celebration of reading, imagination, hope and giving back. Thank you, Ms Mazaleni, for inspiring our young readers!

[In Pictures] MRH Quality Assurance Team conducted a Patient Experience Care (PEC) Survey from 17 to 21 August 2026 to gather feedback from patients regarding their experiences and satisfaction with the care and services provided.

[In Pictures] Mamelodi Regional Hospital has successfully performed a hip replacement on a 72-year-old patient who suffered a hip fracture after a fall.

Led by Dr Bafana Nhlapo, Head of Orthopedics, and assisted by Dr Sedzani Nematshema, the procedure aims to relieve pain, restore mobility and help patients regain their independence.

Patients can begin mobilizing as early as the first day after surgery, supported by physiotherapists and walking aids where needed.

The hospital’s Orthopedic team continues to provide specialized care that improves quality of life and supports better outcomes for patients.
