GEMS TANZANITE ONE OPTION DOES NOT GUARANTEE THAT YOU WILL DELIVER YOUR BABY AT A PRIVATE HOSPITAL.

The Gems medical aid sent a communication to private hospitals and to its clients that as from 1 January 2026 get will only cover emergency procedures at private hospitals and will not cover cancer treatment at private hospitals.
All non qualifying patients must go and be attended at public hospital.

MY ADVICE: UPGRADE TO OTHER OPTIONS IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO GET PREGNANT AND WANT TO DELIVER AT A PRIVATE HOSPITAL.

A 38 year old lady who has never been pregnant presented with severe back ache, abdominal pains, constipation, heavy menstrual bleeding and failure to fall pregnant... Examination revealed a big tummy caused by Fibroids of the uterus.
A total of 36 Fibroids ware removed.
She is currently well with no pains, normal menstruation and looking forward to have her own first baby.

Such a big mass causes an increase in abdominal pressure of the patient over a long period of time.
Its sudden removal causes the body to take time to make necessary adjustments to cope with the new lower abdominal pressure.
I thank DR Thandiswa Motolwana our anesthetic doctor who had to make sure that this important heamodynamic control is maintained during and after the operation.
