CONSUMER APPEAL: BUSHVELD VENISON & GLUTEN LABELLING

I am documenting concerns relating to the ingredient and allergen labelling of Bushveld Venison products sold through Checkers. This is based on my own experience dating back to 2022.
Over this period, I purchased venison mince, patties and wors. Many of these products were sold without ingredient or allergen information, and at the time I did not know that certain items could contain gluten.

During this period, I experienced severe inflammatory reactions and extended periods where I was unable to walk or work. In 2023, after another serious reaction, I was informed at the Hillcrest Checkers store that gluten was present in the venison wors. This helped me understand what may have contributed to reactions I had previously been unable to explain.

Since then, I have documented:
• Product labels and packaging
• Missing or inconsistent allergen information
• Written communication from Checkers
• Updated photographs from multiple stores
• My own symptoms and timelines
I am now asking a simple question:
Have you had a similar experience?
If you are gluten intolerant, have coeliac disease, have a gluten sensitivity, or rely on accurate allergen information — and you purchased Bushveld Venison products from Checkers — I would like to hear from you.

I am particularly interested in experiences involving:
• Venison mince
• Venison patties
• Venison wors
• Missing or unclear ingredient information
• Missing or inconsistent gluten/allergen disclosure
• Being told a product was gluten free
• Becoming ill after consumption
• Later discovering gluten containing ingredients were present
