Real intimacy has less to do with the easy moments and more to do with how two minds handle conflict and choose to repair it. 🕯️
Anyone can feel close during the good times. Real closeness gets built in what happens after the hard conversation, after the misunderstanding, after one of you said something that landed wrong. Repair is where trust actually gets tested and, if it's done well, strengthened.
Your mind is constantly tracking safety in a relationship, even in ways you're not consciously aware of. Every time conflict happens and gets repaired with honesty instead of avoidance, your mind logs something important. This person stays. This person comes back. This is somewhere I can be fully human, mess and all, and still be loved.
That's what actual intimacy is built from, slowly, over years, through repair rather than the absence of conflict altogether.
If you're in a relationship where hard conversations get had and worked through instead of avoided, that's rarer than it should be, and it's worth appreciating.
