Eswatini Hosts Annual Umhlanga (Reed Dance) Ceremony ๐ธ๐ฟ๐
Thousands of young Swazi maidens have gathered in Eswatini for the annual Umhlanga Reed Dance, one of the Kingdomโs most revered cultural ceremonies.
The week-long tradition brings together unmarried young women to celebrate Swazi culture, unity, and womanhood. During the ceremony, participants present reeds to the Queen Mother at Ludzidzini Royal Village, a symbolic act of service and respect for the monarchy.
The event is deeply rooted in teaching cultural values, discipline, self-respect, and community among young women, while preserving and passing on Swazi heritage to the next generation.
The Umhlanga Reed Dance remains one of Africaโs most colourful and significant cultural festivals, attracting cultural enthusiasts from around the world.
