MESSY PLAY 🙌🏼

Did you know that messy play doesn’t have to be limited to a child’s hands? Here, we explored the texture of foam using our feet!

This little one was especially brave - he chose to combine the soft foam with scratchy grass, and we even ended up making mud. What a sensory adventure!

Activities like this are a great way to gently support children who find barefoot walking challenging. In OT, we always take it slow, follow the child’s lead, and stop when things feel overwhelming.

I also made sure water, a washcloth, and a towel were available so he could clean his feet at any time - giving him a sense of control while adding even more tactile input.

So many textures in one session, and so much fun!

Parents, try this this weekend: Spend 10 minutes letting your child lead the play.

No teaching.
No correcting.
No phones.
No multitasking.

Sit on the floor with them. Let them choose the game, the rules, the ideas. Your role is simply to follow their lead and join their world.

Why this matters:
- Children feel seen and valued when adults follow their ideas.
- It builds confidence, planning, and independence.
- It strengthens your connection and relationship.
- It builds cooperation by filling their "connection tank."

These small moments of connection are what help children feel safe, valued, and deeply loved 🤍

Did you know?
The shoulder and core muscles play a huge role in how neatly your child can write. Before we focus on pencil control, we make sure those big muscles are strong and stable - that’s what gives the hands the support they need for fine motor skills.

Try this at home:
Have your child do some animal walks (bear, crab, frog jumps) before homework - it wakes up the body and the brain!

Our end-of-year OT groups were such a hit last year that we’re bringing them back again! 🤩

Join us for some festive fun, creativity, and gentle skill building as we unwind, play, and celebrate the end of the year together.

What’s happening this December:
🎉 Cookie Decorating Workshop – get creative, practice fine motor skills, and enjoy a deliciously fun morning!
🎉 Gingerbread House Decorating Workshop – decorate, design, and build your own festive masterpiece to take home.
🎉 “Minute to Win It” Fun Games Day – fast-paced, laughter-filled challenges with small prizes up for grabs! Great for teamwork, coordination, focus, and fine motor skills – and loads of fun.

These sessions are the perfect mix of relaxation, socialising, and skill-building in a fun, festive environment.

Costs include all materials, take-home end-products, or prizes.
