A NEW BEGINNING!

Our featured patient presented with end stage venous disease and experienced excruciating pain on a daily basis.

Here she is pictured after undergoing successful venous treatment at our facility. Her legs are healing and she has a big smile on her face as her pain has resolved.

RESULTS AT 2 WEEKS!

Our patient with sickle cell anaemia has presented for her 2 week follow up and we are all pleased with the result. Her wound is healing and is starting to close and is now dry. The swelling has greatly reduced and her pain has completely resolved.

The patient now has restored hope and is looking forward to a pain free life with greater mobility.

Our facility will continue to follow up this patient’s recovery and will post future results.
But for now, this is a great result that was achieved under difficult circumstances!

A TEENAGE PROBLEM!!!

Today we present a 17 year old female who has multiple varicose veins on both her legs. Her main symptoms are that of pain and swelling.
Her pain even occurs when she is seated in class and this interrupts her school day as she is unable to focus in class and often has to be excused to go for a walk to help ease the pain.
Her venous disease also limits her sporting activities as her legs become tired very easily.

She underwent successful venous treatment at our facility and her pain and swelling has resolved, her legs look brighter and her exercise endurance has increased.

The patient together with her family were very pleased with the result. The Vein Wellness Team wishes the patient everything of the best for the remaining school year!

This post serves to highlight that venous disease is also prevalent in the younger population groups and that it should not just be classified as a disease affecting only the elderly.

Our index patient is a 37 year old female originally from Uganda. She was diagnosed with sickle cell anaemia at the age of 2 years old and has since had multiple serious vascular complications throughout her lifetime.

She now presents with end stage venous disease and is in an incredible amount of pain. She has attended other medical facilities for advice and assistance but was turned away numerous times as her case was classified as highly complex and extremely high risk.

After careful assessment our team decided to go against the grain and actually assist the patient. She underwent successful venous treatment at our facility and with careful planning no vascular complications occurred during the procedure.

THE HEALING PHASE!

It is now just under a month since our patient with advanced venous disease underwent treatment at The Vein Wellness Clinic of Southern Africa. She had developed features of Lipodermatosclerosis and venous eczema and was suffering with extreme pain for the past 12 years.

On her follow up appointment, the difference can clearly be seen! Her wounds are now healing, hyperpigmentation is now reversing and her leg is starting to return to a normal colour.
Her symptoms of pain have resolved and she is now freely mobile and able to walk greater distances.

The patient and her family are extremely happy with the result. Clinic staff are also thrilled with the quick results.

Today we present a 65 year old female who presents with advanced venous disease. She has suffered with venous reflux for the past 20 years and has developed lipodermatosclerosis which is also complicated by venous eczema over the last 12 years. Septic wounds have now appeared around both ankle areas present for the past 2 months.
She is in chronic pain and has difficulty walking and basic daily activities such as getting up from a chair are proving difficult.
Her risk factors include her being diabetic and previously having multiple pregnancies.
She is at our facility today to undergo venous treatment. Results to follow in subsequent posts

CANCER SURVIVOR!

Our index patient is a 48 year old male who previously underwent radiation treatment to his right groin area due to the spread of cancer in his right leg.
As a result, his lymphatic system was disrupted and he developed chronic lymphoedema.
Basic daily activities such as walking, getting out of the bed and even getting up from a chair were difficult for him due to chronic pain and heaviness of his leg.

He underwent venous treatment at our facility with the aim of reducing the limb swelling and providing pain relief.
Here he is pictured 2 weeks after treatment and he is extremely happy with his results.

Firstly his limb swelling has reduced and his legs feel lighter. The colour in his legs have also improved. It is now much easier for him to walk and to carry out other daily activities.
Secondly his pain has resolved. He previously used to live on painkillers and since his treatment, he no longer consumes any form of pain medication!

Overall this is an excellent outcome for this patient and he is also appreciative of the level of service provided to him by clinic staff.

ATHLETIC PERFORMANCE!!!

Today we have a 55 year old female who has been suffering with venous disease for 10 years. She is an active cyclist and runner and has seen a drop in her performance levels due to cramping and pain that now occurs more frequently when she exercises.

Other notable symptoms include discolouration of her legs, swelling around the ankles, bulging varicosities, restless legs and chronic heaviness and fatigue.

She underwent venous treatment at our facility and her results were outstanding.

Here she is pictured less than a month after treatment. Her swelling is reduced, pain and cramping resolved, discolouration is improving and varicosities are no longer prominent.
The patient is extremely happy with the outcome and is looking forward to leading an active lifestyle again.

A LIGHTER SIDE!

Here we present a 50 year old male patient who underwent venous treatment at our facility. He presented with extremely swollen legs and chronic pain that made everyday living extremely difficult.

Here he is pictured 2 weeks after receiving venous treatment. His swelling is reduced, legs feel much lighter and softer to touch and the dark pigmentation is improving (this is more noticeable around the left foot and ankle area). His pain has subsided and he is much more mobile now.

The patient and his family have noticed the drastic improvement in his condition and are thankful that he had undergone treatment at the Vein Wellness Clinic of Southern Africa. Our team is happy that we could make a positive difference to this patient’s life.
