Why did I stop drinking milk? Liquid sugar. 👀🙅🏾♀️
Okay, seriously, there’s something much deeper behind why I started asking questions about what we eat.
As human beings, we have become incredibly comfortable with the idea that animals are simply bodies, body parts and products for our consumption.
And as a Black person, I find that contradiction particularly uncomfortable.
We come from a history where human beings were dehumanised, exploited and compared to animals, with the belief that some lives mattered less and some beings could simply be used for someone else's benefit.
So I started asking myself: Why should freedom, compassion and dignity stop with humans?
Why are we so comfortable normalising the suffering and exploitation of other living beings simply because they are on our plates?
And then there is the environmental and health impact of an animal-heavy food system.
Eat More Plants Africa isn't about telling you to become vegan overnight.
It's about asking a much simpler question:
🌱 What happens if we eat more fruits, vegetables, legumes, grains, nuts and seeds and gradually reduce our dependence on animal products?
What if plant-based eating became more accessible, affordable and culturally relevant across Africa?
What if we looked at our traditional foods differently and realised that we already have so many incredible plant foods?
Eat More Plants Africa is about education, curiosity and practical change.
Less animal products.
More plants.
More nourishment.
More compassion.
More sustainable choices.
You don't have to change everything tomorrow.
Start by adding one more plant to your plate. 🌱
