Tara the H Moross psychiatric hospital This is the official account of the Tara the H. Moross Psychiatric Hospital
Switch Board number 011 535 3000
50 Saxon Road, Hurlingham Sandton, 2196 V.

Tara Hospital is a Specialised Psychiatric Hospital, and we provide tertiary / quaternary level psychiatric care. For our outpatient services we work strictly according to catchment areas as well as the required level of psychiatric services. For inpatient services Tara Hospital has waiting lists for all the inpatient programmes / wards and priority is given to patients currently admitted to an ac

ute unit and requiring longer admissions for stabilization. Tara Hospital does not have a casualty / emergency department, and we do not have an onsite laboratory of radiological services. Should you arrive at Tara without an appointment you will be assessed by our doctor on call and managed accordingly. Should you require admission, a referral to an acute hospital will be made as this may require medical work (laboratory and radiology). In case of an emergency and to avoid the delay of the Tara Hospital needing to transfer the patient to an acute facility it is recommended that you go directly to your nearest casualty. Referral is done by means of a referral form completed by your treating psychiatrist. This The form can be obtained from Tara Admissions by calling 011 535 3064 and returned to [email protected]

• Patients are placed on a waiting list and are accepted for admission when a bed is available or as per multidisciplinary team assessment (for specialised units).
• Patients are referred by psychiatric units in general hospitals, psychiatric registrars or consultants working at community clinics and psychiatrists in private practice.
• Patients following up at Tara may also be placed on the waiting list when admission is needed.
• Patients with serious medical or physical health conditions will be assessed for suitability on a case-by-case basis as we do not have access to onsite physician or surgical support, neither onsite laboratory nor radiology services.
• We do not provide substance rehabilitation services.
• The outpatient departments and pharmacy operational hours are 7:30 to 16:00. Vision

Walking Together for Mental Health – Mandela Day 2026

On the 17th July, Tara Hospital was honoured to be invited by Batatise Consulting Engineers, Oh'Chad Holdings, Kago Entle Group, Xyen Industries and Elmon Consulting to participate in a meaningful 5 km Walk/Run held at the Johannesburg Zoo in celebration of Nelson Mandela Day.

The initiative not only celebrated Madiba's legacy of service and compassion but also highlighted the importance of mental health awareness. We are deeply grateful that Tara Hospital was selected as one of the beneficiaries of the day's fundraising efforts, with all donations being dedicated to supporting our patients and services.

Representing Tara Hospital, Matron Jones delivered an inspiring address on the importance of prioritising mental health, reminding everyone that taking care of our minds is just as important as taking care of our bodies. She also shared valuable information about the specialised mental health services provided at Tara Hospital and expressed heartfelt appreciation to all the participating companies for their generosity, commitment and partnership.

The day was filled with smiles, laughter, meaningful conversations and a wonderful sense of community. Events like these remind us that together we can break the stigma surrounding mental health and encourage more people to seek help when they need it.

Mental health matters. Every conversation, every act of kindness and every step taken towards understanding mental health can make a life changing difference. Remember, seeking support is a sign of strength not weakness.

As Nelson Mandela said:

"What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead."

Thank you to everyone who participated, donated and helped make this initiative such a memorable success. Together, we continue to make a difference one step at a time.
