True power is when every woman and girl has the choice, the confidence, and support to live life on her terms. As we celebrate this year's Madaraka Day, the feeling of being independent should be one that every woman and girl experiences every day—not just in principle, but in practice.

Yet for many, period poverty continues to limit that freedom. Access to menstrual products is more than a basic need; it is access to education, dignity, opportunity, and the ability to participate fully in society.

This Madaraka Day, we invite you to reflect: What does power mean to you? And how can we create a future where every woman and girl has the freedom to thrive without barriers?

Today is World Menstrual Hygiene Day.

A day that exists because millions of girls still miss school every month because of their period. Because period poverty is real, it is here in Kenya, and it has solutions.

Creating safe spaces for conversation, creativity, and change

During our outreach in Kibera with members from Passion for Share and students from Michigan, participants were divided into two groups and engaged in creative activities through skits and commercials focused on cultural taboos and menstrual policy. The sessions encouraged confidence, teamwork, and open discussions around menstrual health and awareness.

Together, we also distributed: • 63 reusable menstrual kits
• 86 underwears
• 63 bars of soap

A meaningful day of learning, sharing, and empowering the community 💜
