June is Cancer Survivor Month, a time dedicated to honouring strength, resilience and life beyond diagnosis.

This month is about more than survival. It’s about the journey, the early mornings filled with uncertainty, the treatments that test every part of you, the quiet courage no one always sees and the moments where hope wins, even in the smallest ways.

We celebrate every survivor who has walked through cancer and continues to show us what it means to live fully, bravely, and intentionally. We also recognise the families, caregivers, and healthcare teams who stand beside them through every step.

To every survivor: your story matters, your strength is seen, and your life continues to inspire.

Here’s to June: a month of honouring life, courage, and second chances.

Brain Cancer Fact of the Day

The brain is one of the most protected organs in the body, thanks to something called the blood-brain barrier.

This barrier acts like a highly selective security system, preventing harmful substances in the bloodstream from reaching the brain. But in brain cancer treatment, it also creates a major challenge. Many chemotherapy drugs struggle to cross it effectively.

🔬 This is why researchers are developing innovative treatments like targeted therapies, focused ultrasound, and nanoparticles designed specifically to reach brain tumours more effectively.

In oncology, understanding the biology of the brain is just as important as treating the tumour itself.

🧠 Did You Know?

Brain tumours don’t just cause symptoms by “growing”, they can actually rewire the brain’s environment.

Some aggressive brain cancers, like glioblastoma, are able to communicate with surrounding healthy brain cells using chemical signals and even electrical activity. Research suggests these tumours may “hijack” normal brain networks to support their own growth.

This is one reason why brain cancer remains one of the most complex cancers to treat, it’s not just a mass, but a disease that interacts closely with the brain itself.

🔬 Modern oncology research is now exploring therapies that target these tumour-brain connections, opening new possibilities for future treatment.

🧠 Brain Cancer Awareness
Sometimes the most powerful battles are the ones we can’t see. Brain cancer often hides behind everyday symptoms, making it easy to overlook. That’s why awareness matters because recognizing the warning signs early can change everything.

🚨 Symptoms to Watch For
Persistent headaches, especially worse in the morning or when coughing/straining.

Nausea or vomiting without clear cause.

Sudden seizures in someone with no history of epilepsy.

Weakness or numbness on one side of the body.

Trouble speaking or changes in speech.

Loss of balance or coordination.

Vision changes such as blurriness or double vision.

Noticeable memory lapses or personality changes.

Hearing loss or ringing in one ear.

These symptoms can be caused by other conditions too, but when they appear suddenly or worsen over time, they should never be ignored.

🩺 How Diagnosis Happens
Doctors use advanced imaging like MRI or CT scans to look inside the brain. Sometimes, a biopsy is needed to confirm the type of tumor. Early diagnosis means more treatment options and better outcomes.
