Did You Know?

A painless lump or swelling near a bone or joint may seem harmless, but if it continues to grow or doesn't go away, it should be checked. Bone sarcomas can develop silently, making it important to pay attention to changes in your body.

🌍 International Self‑Care Day

International Self‑Care Day is observed each year to highlight the vital role of self‑care in protecting our physical, mental, and emotional well‑being. The day reminds us that most health outcomes are shaped by the everyday choices we make long before professional care is needed. Simple actions like maintaining good hygiene, practising healthy habits and using trusted over‑the‑counter health products are powerful steps in prevention. Self‑care is not just about feeling good in the moment; it’s about building a healthier future, one choice at a time.

🎗The 3 Main Types

Not all bone sarcomas are the same. Here are the top 3:

🔹 Osteosarcoma — most common type. Affects teens & young adults, usually near the knees or shoulders, during growth spurts.

🔹 Ewing Sarcoma — 2nd most common, mainly kids & teens (ages 10–20). Often found in arm/leg bones, pelvis, or ribs.

🔹 Chondrosarcoma — begins in cartilage cells. More common in adults 40–70. Usually in the pelvis, femur, or ribs.

Each type behaves differently which is why an accurate diagnosis is everything.

What Is Bone Sarcoma?

🦴 Bone pain that won't go away? Here's what you need to know.

Sarcoma is a group of cancers starting in bone or soft tissue (cartilage, fat, muscle, blood vessels). When it starts in the bone itself, it's called primary bone cancer.

Important distinction: this is different from cancer that spreads to the bone from elsewhere (like breast or lung cancer) — that's called metastatic bone disease.

Primary bone cancer is rare. Knowing the difference matters for diagnosis and treatment. 👇

🎗️ July is Sarcoma and Bone Cancer Awareness Month 🎗️

This July, we shine a light on Sarcoma and Bone Cancer Awareness Month, raising awareness about these rare but serious cancers that can affect both children and adults.

Sarcomas are cancers that develop in the body's bones and soft tissues, including muscles, fat, blood vessels, nerves, and connective tissues. Because they are uncommon, the signs and symptoms can sometimes be overlooked, making awareness and early diagnosis especially important.

Possible warning signs include:
🦴 Persistent bone pain or swelling
💛 A lump that continues to grow
🚶 Difficulty moving a limb or unexplained fractures
😴 Ongoing pain that does not improve

Early detection can make a significant difference. If you or someone you know experiences persistent or unusual symptoms, don't ignore them, seek medical advice.

Throughout July, we will be sharing information, stories, and resources to help educate our community, support those affected, and encourage hope through awareness.

Together, we can increase understanding, support patients and their families, and advocate for earlier diagnosis and better outcomes.

💛 Join us this month as we stand together to raise awareness for Sarcoma and Bone Cancer.
