On the 31st of March 2026, the Gert Sibande District Men's Sector was launched at the Gert Sibande District Council Chamber in Ermelo. The launch was chaired by the District speaker of Council, Cllr B.G Sekhonde and the Chairperson of the District Men's Sector Bishop Welcome Mkhonza.

A newly elected structure was formed with representatives from all local municipalities under the Gert Sibande District. As the Govan Mbeki Municipality Men's Sector we are proud to say our Secretary, Andy Mahlagaume has be elected as part of the top 6 structure which is the Deputy Convener of Gert Sibande District Men's Sector and our Deputy Chairperson, Mr Papa Tsibela has been elected as a representative of the Govan Mbeki Municipality in the District.

The launch marks a significant milestone in the District and seeing Men in the District taking their role in society.

The Leandra Men's Sector marked a significant milestone with the successful launch of a platform dedicated to addressing the issues affecting men in the community. The launch took place on the 19th of March 2026 at the Thusong Centre in Leandra as part of the Zonal Structures to exist in three different regions of the Govan Mbeki Municipality.

The initiative aims to create a safe and open space where men in Leandra can engage in meaningful discussions around the challenges they face daily. The platform will tackle a wide range of social, emotional, and economic issues impacting men with the goal of fostering growth, unity, and positive change.

The newly elected structure:

1. Chairperson - Mr Tsibela
2. Deputy Chairperson - Mr Mlangeni
3. Secretary - Mr Mahlagaume
4. Deputy Secretary - Mr Masilela
5. EXCO Officio Members - Mr Sibanyoni (Office of the speaker): Mr Sithole (Coghsta)

The structure is not complete as on the 26th of March 2026, additional members will be added including head of portfolios will be added.

The Executive will work together with various community based organizations, traditional council, various departments as well as community citizens to ensure wider impact in the community of leandra.

The Govan Mbeki Municipality held it's Local Economic Development Forum (LED) meeting on the 19th of February 2026 at the Lillian Ngoyi Centre in Secunda, where the Executive Mayor Nhlakanipho Zuma who is also the Chairperson of the forum delivered an assessment of the municipalities financial health and addressing the forums concerns of the lack of water in the past weeks in the municipalities which had detrimental effect on local businesses, organizations, schools, hospitals as well as community citizens.

The GMM Men's Sector which is also the member of the LED forum was invited and attended the meeting represented by the Deputy Chairperson Mr Tsibela and the Secretary Mr Mahlagaume, participated and contributed in the meeting on behalf of the sector.

As the Men's Sector our participation in the forum is off importance to represent all Men of the Govan Mbeki Municipality and also share their views and what they want to see happen in the Municipality.
