Your baby’s brain and spinal cord begin developing incredibly early in pregnancy - often before you even know you’re expecting.🤰

One of the most important nutrients during this time is folate, which helps support healthy neural tube development and your baby’s rapidly growing cells.

Some of my favourites include:
🥬 Leafy greens
🫘 Lentils and beans
🥑 Avocados
🍊 Citrus fruits
🥦 Broccoli and asparagus
🫛 Green peas
🥚 Eggs
🌻 Sunflower seeds

Mama - your gut microbiome does more than support your health during pregnancy- it also plays an important role in your baby’s development.

Throughout pregnancy, the trillions of microbes living in your gut produce vitamins, metabolites and other compounds that can influence your immune system, metabolism and the environment in which your baby grows. Emerging research also suggests that a healthy maternal microbiome helps support your baby’s developing immune system before birth.

Supporting your microbiome doesn’t have to be complicated.

✨ Eat plenty of fibre.
🌈 Aim for a wide variety of plant foods.
🫐 Include polyphenol-rich foods like berries, herbs and extra virgin olive oil.
🥣 Enjoy fermented foods if they’re tolerated and safe during pregnancy.
💧 Prioritise hydration, movement and sleep where you can.

Remember, your microbiome is supposed to change during pregnancy. The goal isn’t to keep it the same- it’s to nourish it so it can continue doing the incredible job it was designed to do.🙏

Following on from my mould exposure experience I shared last week, I thought I’d share a bit more of what I learned through all of this. Mould is not simply that black spot on your bathroom window- for many people, it can cause systemic inflammation. And if you aren’t aware of it - the long term effects of exposure can be catastrophic for you!

Here’s some insight into how mould can affect your entire body!
