What are the most common mental illnesses affecting teens in Cape Town?
Let’s be real. Being a teen in Cape Town right now is stressful. 💙 Between academic pressure, the constant noise of social media, and the heavy stuff happening in our communities, it's a lot to carry.
Research shows that anxiety, depression, and PTSD are incredibly common among teens in the Western Cape. Add in the massive impact of bullying—whether it's happening online, in the school corridors, or even at home—and it makes total sense why so many of us feel overwhelmed. In fact, almost 64% of South African learners have faced some form of cyberbullying, and it takes a huge toll on our mental health.
If you are noticing severe mood swings, feeling the need to isolate yourself, or just struggling to get through the day, that is your mind asking for help. It’s okay to admit that things aren't okay.
