Winelands Radiology is proud to have supported the participation of our colleague Dr Shaun Scheepers as Chairman of the 2026 SAMSIG Safari Congress, held 15–20 May at Sarova Mara Game Camp in Kenya’s iconic Maasai Mara National Reserve. SAMSIG (the South African Musculoskeletal Imaging Group), has been running annual safari congresses since 2010, combining specialist academic programmes with exclusive safari experiences to attract a world-class international faculty. This year’s edition was the most ambitious to date, bringing together 53 delegates and faculty from South Africa, the United States, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Europe, and Australia.
The academic programme covered the cutting edge of MSK imaging - advanced MRI sequences, peripheral nerve imaging, bone marrow pathology, sacroiliac joint disease, and more - earning delegates 12 clinical and 3 ethics CPD points. The setting added its own dimension: game drives, a hot air balloon sunrise over the savanna, a guided bush walk, and a Maasai cultural evening ensured that the congress was as memorable outside the lecture tent as inside it. All five of Africa’s Big Five were sighted during the week, including leopard and black rhino. We congratulate Shaun and the SAMSIG committee on a remarkable achievement, and thank our colleagues at the practice for their support during his absence.
