Grace Hughes Physiotherapy

Grace Hughes Physiotherapy Excellent, effective, evidence-based physiotherapy to ensure correct diagnosis, successful and efficient treatment of patients.

Grace Hughes’ practice focuses on REHABILITATION: neuromusculoskeletal, neurological (e.g. CP and stroke), sports, spinal and chest conditions are amongst the conditions we manage. Another division is medicolegal practice. Our physiotherapy services are often used by elite sports people and at international events, as well as within our community where we provide physiotherapy and training service

s to Siyakwazi (a local NGO supporting disabled community children and their families). Exposure to and interest in current international research ensures that the physiotherapists (Grace Hughes and Erin van Graan), are knowledgeable and up-to-date in their medical field. The practice strives to deliver evidence-based and effective physiotherapy to ensure correct diagnosis and efficient treatments, every time. Physiotherapy research over the last decade has revolutionised the way our patients are assessed and managed; we strive to care for each person sympathetically, professionally, and successfully. We also provide necessary information in order to understand injury or pathology, thereby facilitating the healing and rehabilitation process.

When a physiotherapy opinion forms part of a legal case, clinical experience matters.

Grace Hughes has been a medicolegal practitioner for 24 years and a practising physiotherapist for 32 years, combining academic, clinical and rehabilitative expertise.

Through thorough initial assessments, she provides accurate, concise and relevant medicolegal opinions and reports for both claimants and defendants.

WHY IS ONE LEG STRONGER THAN THE OTHER?

Almost everyone has some degree of difference between their left and right sides.
But after an injury, surgery, period of inactivity or simply years of favouring one side, that difference can become more significant.

Your body is clever - it finds ways to compensate.

The problem is that compensation can sometimes place extra demands on other muscles and joints.

That's why rehabilitation isn't just about getting rid of pain.

It's about restoring strength, control, balance and confidence so your whole lower limb can do its job again.

Strong doesn't just mean powerful.
It means controlled, coordinated and ready for life.

Cooler weather doesn't mean slowing down...
Even though winter on the KZN South Coast is a little kinder than elsewhere (many of us are still happily walking barefoot on the beach), the cooler temperatures can leave muscles feeling tighter and joints a little stiffer.

Whether you're enjoying a morning beach walk, a round of golf, a run, or simply keeping active, don't ignore those persistent aches and pains. Early treatment can prevent small niggles from becoming bigger problems.

Keep moving and stay active all year round.

Movement is Medicine

One of the biggest myths in healthcare is that pain means you should stop moving completely until it disappears. While rest may be necessary in the early stages of an injury, prolonged inactivity can often delay recovery.

Research continues to show that the right movement, at the right time, can help reduce pain, restore function, improve confidence, and support long-term recovery. Whether you're dealing with low back pain, neck pain, knee osteoarthritis, or plantar fasciitis, a structured and individualized rehabilitation programme can make all the difference.

We believe in evidence-based care that empowers people to move better, recover stronger, and return to the activities they love.

Remember: movement isn't about pushing through pain—it's about finding the right amount of movement to promote healing and improve function.

Movement, when prescribed correctly, becomes medicine.
