For the past 10 years, Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital has been restoring the gift of hearing through its Cochlear Implant Programme, performing more than 300 life-changing cochlear implant procedures.
Today marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter.
Through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) with About Sound, additional funding has been secured to support cochlear implant procedures, enabling more patients to access this life-changing intervention. Building on Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital’s well-established cochlear implant programme, this partnership will significantly strengthen access to hearing restoration services.
Today, Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital CEO, Dr Nthabiseng Makgana, joined former Miss South Africa M I A L E R O U X on Jacaranda FM Good Morning Feel Good breakfast show in support of the Cochlear Implant Project through the About Sound initiative. Ahead of Mandela Day, the initiative secured funding that will help restore the gift of hearing to even more patients.
Jacaranda FM team also prepared and served warm soup to our patients, demonstrating that compassion, dignity and service remain at the heart of healthcare.
Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital extends its sincere appreciation to About Sound, Jacaranda FM, Mia le Roux and every partner committed to changing lives through collaboration.
This partnership is a powerful reminder that when the public and private sectors work together, we can expand access to specialised healthcare and create lasting impact for the communities we serve.
