Jacolien Britz Speech Therapy trading as Beyond Words Speech Therapy We work with children and adults who have difficulties with communication, hearing, eating, drinking and swallowing.

We are a well established practice in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town with 3 practice locations: Cape Gate, Goodwood and Stellenbosch. We also offer services at schools, hospitals and do home visits for adults and children. The Speech Therapists that are part of the team are Jacolien Britz (owner & manager), Lica King and Jamie-Lee Du Preez. Our therapists are carefully selected to suit the needs of our clients.

What is a shortened frenulum or a Tongue-Tie?

When we do our screenings we look out for tongue-ties. It may or may not affect speech, but it can affect quality of life when a child becomes an adult.

The tongue's range of movement will be limited and when your child sticks out their tongue, look out for a heart shape on the tip of the tongue.

Does your child know their prepositions? No? Well, it could be that they struggle with spacial awareness.

The best way to teach them is through experiential learning. Let them climb ON a chair, stand BEHIND the door, go UNDER the table, etc. And then ask them where are you? Make it fun! Always!
