Exercise is Medicine. 💊🏃🏾

Three major factors influence our health, these are the environment, our behaviours and genetics.

Behaviour and environmental factors are critical to focus on as these are variables we can change. The 21st Century has seen a significant rise in the development of non-communicable lifestyle diseases (NCDs). The major contributing behavioural risk factors for NCDs include excessive alcohol intake, smoking, poor diet and inactivity. Clear evidence exists that indicates regular physical activity and healthy lifestyle habits reduce the risk of developing pathologies including diabetes, hypertension, cancers, depression, osteoporosis and dementia. Exercise also assists with maintaining a healthy weight and reducing premature death.🏋🏻‍♀️

In my opinion, the drive to establish scientific exercise prescription to treat NCDs is an important paradigm shift that needs to take place in order to improve overall world health and reduce the burden of disease.
