🌍 WORLD SPINE DAY | 16 OCTOBER

Your spine is not fragile. It is a strong, adaptable structure designed to bend, twist, load and move.

While back and neck pain can be frustrating and sometimes limiting, pain does not automatically mean that something is damaged or that movement is unsafe.

This World Spine Day, we’re encouraging a healthier approach to spinal health:

- Keep moving
- Change positions regularly
- Build strength gradually
- Stay active in ways you enjoy
- Don’t let fear of movement limit you

When pain does persist, physiotherapy can help you understand your symptoms, identify contributing factors and build a plan to get you moving with confidence again.

Strong spines move. 💪🏼🌿

A great lunchtime learning session at Milnerton Mediclinic!

Our team had the opportunity to learn more about Achilles tendon injuries - an increasingly relevant topic as we see a growing number of these injuries among padel players. 🎾

We’re committed to continuous learning and keeping our clinical approach evidence-based, so we can provide our patients with the best possible care. 💚

Exercise doesn't always need a dedicated hour.
Movement can be built into the moments you're already living:..the walk during practice..the dance in the kitchen..the evening stroll after dinner

Aim for consistency, not perfection. 🌿

Happy Women’s Day to the women who show up with strength, resilience, compassion and courage every single day.

Today we celebrate the women who care for others, support their communities, and keep moving forward through every season.

Move More August: Small movements can make a big impact

As we head towards spring, we’re launching Move More August – a month focused on one simple idea: every step counts.

You don’t need hours in the gym to improve your health.
Small, consistent movements throughout the day can help reduce aches and pains, improve mobility and strength, boost energy levels, and support long-term health.

Throughout August we’ll be sharing practical tips on how to:

🏃‍♀️move more at work
🏃‍♀️move more at home
🏃‍♀️move more despite pain
🏃‍♀️move more for life

We’ve also published a new blog: Move More: How Small Daily Movements Can Improve Your Health, where we explore why movement matters and how to make it a realistic part of everyday life.

Read the blog here: https://westcoastphysio.co.za/move-more-daily-movement-physiotherapy/

This month, challenge yourself to move a little more. Because small movements really can make a big impact.

🧠 Your brain and nervous system play an important role in how pain is experienced.

Simple daily habits can help support recovery and reduce nervous system sensitivity over time.

These five strategies aren’t quick fixes, but they are evidence-based habits that can support both brain health and pain management.

Small changes can make a meaningful difference.

🚨 Sometimes pain continues even after an injury has healed.

Your nervous system is designed to protect you, BUT sometimes it can become overly sensitive, like a smoke alarm that goes off too easily.
The good news? With the right education, movement and gradual exposure, your nervous system can adapt.

Understanding pain is an important part of recovery. 🧠

Pain doesn’t always mean damage...

One of the biggest advances in modern pain science is recognising that pain is a protective experience created by the brain, not simply a measure of tissue damage.

That’s why two people with the same injury can experience very different levels of pain, and why pain can sometimes persist even after tissues have healed.

Understanding this doesn’t mean the pain is “all in your head.” Your pain is real. It simply means the brain and nervous system play an important role in how pain is experienced.

At West Coast Physio, we use an evidence-based approach to help patients understand their pain, regain confidence in movement and return to the activities they enjoy.
