Winter Burn Awareness

During winter, many families use heaters, candles, paraffin stoves, hot water and open fires to stay warm. While these help us fight the cold, they can also increase the risk of burn injuries, especially among children. Burns can happen at home within seconds and may cause serious harm if we are not careful.
To stay safe, keep children away from hot objects and open flames, never leave candles unattended, switch off heaters when not in use and handle boiling water with care. Keep matches and lighters out of children’s reach and make sure electrical appliances are used safely.
If someone gets burned, immediately cool the burn under clean running water and seek medical attention if necessary. Let us all work together to prevent burns and keep our homes safe and warm this winter.

HAPPY WOMEN'S DAY
09 August 2026

On this special occasion of Women’s Day, I extend my heartfelt appreciation and warmest wishes to all the remarkable women of Taung District Hospital, our patients, partners, and women throughout our communities.

Today, we honour the courage, resilience and determination of the women who marched on 9 August 1956, and we celebrate the generations of women who continue to build stronger families, workplaces and communities.

Within our hospital, women serve at the heart of healthcare — as nurses, doctors, allied health professionals, administrators, support staff, managers and leaders. Your dedication, compassion and professionalism contribute immensely towards the provision of quality healthcare to our communities.

As we celebrate Women’s Day, let us also reaffirm our commitment to creating an environment where women are respected, protected, empowered and afforded equal opportunities to lead and thrive.

To every woman who continues to serve despite challenges, who leads with courage, who nurtures others and who inspires those around her: we see you, we appreciate you, and we celebrate you.
May we continue working together to build a society where every woman and girl can live with dignity, safety, equality and hope.

Happy Women’s Day!

“Wathint’ Abafazi, Wathint’ Imbokodo!”

Breastfeeding should not stop when your baby turns 6 months

Once your baby turns 6 months, start introducing healthy solid foods while continuing to breastfeed. Between 6 and 12 months, breastmilk provides half or more of your baby's energy needs. It is nutritious, always available, and helps you save money because it is free.
