CHUNKY GREEK SALAD
Make this COLOURFUL and REFRESHING mixture this weekend. It’s somewhere between a salad and a chunky salsa – a simple combination of fresh veggies, herbs and feta cheese, and perfect with any meal.
TOP TIP: if you don’t like the taste of raw onion in a salad (nor the aftertaste), cover the onion slices with boiling water. Allow to stand for 10 minutes to reduce the oniony taste, drain well and pat dry. Then add to the salad to still have the sweetness and crunch of the onion, but not that overpowering taste.

TOSS the following ingredients TOGETHER in a BOWL:
🍅 2 tomatoes, cut into large chunks
🥒 ¼ cucumber, cut into thick slices and quartered
🍅 3 salad peppers, seeded and cut into chunks
🥒 1½ disks of feta cheese, cubed
🍅 1 small onion, sliced (see tip above)
🥒 a small handful of fresh dill
🍅 a few fresh mint leaves for garnish

SEASON to taste with black pepper and DRIZZLE with 4 tsp (20 ml) olive oil.
REFRIGERATE for 30 minutes and serve as a fabulous side dish with any meal. Serves 4 – 6.

31 May is World No To***co Day, and we're talking about what smoking actually does to your body.

Every cigarette you smoke exposes you to over 7,000 chemicals, at least 250 of which are known to be harmful or cancer-causing, and attacks nearly every organ in your body.
· People who smoke are up to 20 times more likely to develop lung cancer. Between 85-90% of all chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) cases are caused by cigarette smoking.
· Smokers are 2-4 times more likely to suffer coronary heart disease and stroke.
· Smoking raises your risk of type 2 diabetes by 30 - 40%.
· Smoking during pregnancy raises the risk of miscarriage, stillbirth, low birth weight, and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).
But here's what matters most:
- 20 minutes after your last cigarette, your heart rate and blood pressure begin to drop.
- 1 year after quitting, your risk of heart disease is half that of a smoker.
- 15 years after quitting, your heart disease risk equals someone who never smoked. [Source: WHO, 2025]
It is never too late to quit. Speak to your doctor today. Share this post with someone who needs it.

BANANA FLAPJACKS

This DELICIOUS FLAPJACK recipe was developed for the Texa Allergy recipe booklet by Pharma Dynamics, so it’s ALLERGY-FRIENDLY and contains NO gluten, nuts, dairy or eggs. Although you may think it odd that it’s missing two key flapjack ingredients (aka flour and eggs), it is still a yummy success, thanks to the chia seeds and bananas. This version is equally tasty too!

These flapjacks are GREAT for little ones (from about 6 months) starting to eat solids, or even for toddlers or your bigger kids as a lunchbox treat! The young at heart (😉) will also enjoy them. Look for the BANANA FLAPJACKS recipe in the Texa Allergy booklet, available to download HERE:https://texaallergy.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/TAA877-10-2025-Texa-Allergy-Friendly-Recipe-Book_DIGITAL-DOWNLOAD.pdf

Living with diabetes means that you need to make smarter choices every day. Building lasting healthy lifestyle habits can be difficult, so get the support your need from your doctor, family and friends, or the diabetes community. Here are 5 things that make a difference:
1. Eat a healthy diet
Choose low-GI and whole-grain foods for steady glucose release. Eat plenty of high-fibre vegetables and lean proteins like chicken and fish. Strictly limit sugary foods and drinks — and watch your carbohydrate intake.
2. Stay active
Aim for 30 minutes of moderate activity most days. Exercise brings down blood sugar and reduces your risk of heart disease and stroke.
3. Get regular check-ups
See your doctor at least twice a year, and get tested for blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol. Get a full eye exam every year and check your feet often for sores or any changes to the skin.
4. Manage stress
Stress raises blood sugar — and makes it harder to stick to healthy habits. Find what works for you and protect that time.
5. Stop smoking
Diabetes already raises your risk of heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, and nerve damage. Smoking makes every one of those risks worse.

SARDINE SNACK PLATTER🐟🐟🐟

If you’re a regular on social media, you would’ve seen that snack plates or platters have recently been trending. In particular, the sardine ones, where you put down a tin of your favourite sardines and pair them with different fresh ingredients and a healthy dip. This is definitely a trend we love to endorse because sardines are in fact SUPER good for you! They are HIGH in CALCIUM and MAGNESIUM, a good source of POTASSIUM, PACKED with OMEGA 3 fatty acids, PROTEIN and vitamins B12 and D.

Make a platter and share this between 2 – 4 people.
ALL YOU NEED IS:
🐟 a tin of sardines
🐟 broccoli florets, lightly steamed
🐟 cucumber, cut into thick diagonal slices – great for scooping and dipping
🐟 tomato, cut into wedges or baby tomatoes
🐟 salad peppers, cut into chunks or thick strips
🐟 raw whole nuts, like almonds or cashews
🐟 smooth low-fat cottage cheese
🐟 a healthy seed cracker, broken into shards

Arrange all these ingredients on a platter and enjoy! GET CREATIVE with the elements you add but make sure to keep it LOW-CARB, so don’t add too many starchy elements like bread, savoury biscuits or carrots. The SEED CRACKER RECIPE we shared yesterday is the perfect wholesome addition to this platter.

👀 LET US KNOW in the comments if you plan on making a platter to spoil your friends and family with.

Are you thirsty all the time, even when you've been drinking water? Constant thirst is one of the most common early warning signs of diabetes. The symptoms of type 2 diabetes often appear slowly, and many people don't realise anything is wrong until they're tested. Here's what to watch for:
- always feeling thirsty
- urinating often
- feeling very tired
- sores that heal slowly
- blurry eyesight
- unexplained weight loss
- tingling or numbness in the hands or feet
- frequent infections like flu, bronchitis or thrush
- itchy skin
If any of these sound familiar, get your blood sugar tested – it’s a simple blood glucose test that you can take at your doctor or nearest clinic. Tag a friend who needs to see this.

Today is World Hypertension Day, and if you have diabetes, your heart is at risk.
Diabetes doesn't only affect your blood sugar. Over time, unmanaged high glucose levels cause damage to the blood vessels that supply oxygen and nutrients to your heart - a condition called coronary artery disease. Combined with high blood pressure, this increases your risk of heart attack and stroke. And if you smoke, your risk of heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, nerve damage, and foot ulcers is even higher.
What you can do to protect your heart:
- See your doctor at least twice a year - know your blood pressure, cholesterol and blood glucose numbers
- Exercise regularly - only 30 minutes of moderate activity most days reduces your risk of heart disease
- Eat a heart-healthy diet — limit high-fat and high-sugar foods
- Quit smoking — talk to your doctor about how to start
- Manage your stress — high stress raises blood sugar and blood pressure

This World Hypertension Day, take one step toward protecting your heart.

1 in 10 adults in South Africa has diabetes, and millions of people are living with high blood sugar, many of them without knowing it. [Source: Heart & Stroke Foundation SA] Diabetes is a chronic condition that happens when your blood glucose levels are too high. Without enough insulin to help glucose enter your cells, it stays in the bloodstream — and over time, that causes serious damage to your heart, kidneys, eyes, and nerves. But diabetes can be managed, and with the right support, you can live well. Are you living with diabetes? Does a family member have diabetes? This recipe is seriously one to get EGG-cited about! 🥚
Omelettes are great to spoil your family with for a weekend breakfast or even to make as a quick mid-week supper or when you don’t really feel like cooking. In this recipe, the caramelised onions are extra special with the mushrooms and spinach, making this not just any omelette recipe.

We recognise that motherhood doesn’t pause at the office door.

It exists in early mornings, school runs, and the mental load of balancing work deadlines with family needs. It can mean returning to work while still navigating postpartum recovery, or managing the complexities of children’s schedules, all while continuing to contribute and lead with grit.

This Mother’s Day, our HR team hosted a small drop-off initiative to acknowledge and appreciate the mothers [and those in mother roles] across our business. To the mothers in our team: We see you.
