Cheréne was diagnosed with Scoliosis at the age of 14 years. After a few years of follow-up appointments and what felt like a 100 x-ray scans it was decided to try prosthesis intervention. In a blink of an eye her entire world changed; from being physically active to extreme limitation wearing a full body cast. Following a few months of severe pain, she eventually went for a consultation at an Orthopaedic Surgeon, Dr. Hans van Dyk, to get a second opinion and to look into the possibility of surgery. The surgery would have limited her range of motion in her spine dramatically. And the rehabilitation pre- and post operation would have been extensive. Dr. Hans van Dyk recommended alternative conservative treatment to improve her quality of life and manage her chronic pain. She was introduced to Biokinetics and ever since hooked. Biokinetics gave her the chance to live a mobile life and manage her chronic pain. Cheréne studied Human Movement Science at the University of Pretoria and obtained her BTech Degree in Sport and Exercise Technology as well as in Biokinetics at the Tshwane University of Pretoria. She completed her internship in Heidelberg and opened her own private practice in 2011.She is driven by the fact that exercises can improve the quality of a person's life.

Your atlas is the first cervical vertebra in your spine, C1. This differs from other vertebra’s as it has no body or spinous process.

Your axis is the second vertebra, C2. The axis forms a pivot point for the atlas.

These two vertebrae are important as they work with your ligaments and muscles to move the neck.

Arthritis is a generic term for conditions that involve inflammation in joints. There are 2 types of arthritis.

Osteoarthritis:
A progressive, local, degenerative joint disease affecting one or multiple joints. This leads to a loss of cartilage, bone rubbing on bone, periarticular muscle loss and ligaments becoming strained and weak.

Rheumatoid Arthritis:
A chronic, systematic, inflammatory auto immune disease with an unknown etiology. The inflammatory response may cause inflammation of your joint lining, muscle loss, fat gain and accelerated atherosclerosis.

2. Flexion (Lift up forward)
3. Extension (Go backwards)
4. Internal rotation (Rotate to the inside)
5. External rotation (Rotate to the outside)
