Hey, Ansie here 👋🏻
I’ve called Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha) home for almost 5 years now. I grew up in Roodepoort, spent a year Aupairing in Scotland, and studied 4 years BCUR Nursing at UJ. After several years working as a professional nurse in hospitals and clinics (even as a theatre sister rubbing shoulders with amazing midwives at Genesis in Jhb ) I decided to become a stay-at-home mom.
While at home, I learned website admin work, which gave our family the flexibility and move to Vanderbijlpark.
I’ve been married for 15 years to my wonderful husband, Travis, and we have two boys. Both of my births were with midwives. My first with the lovely Sue King at Genesis , and my second, seven years later, a beautiful home birth with Michelle van der Westhuizen. (My birth stories are definitely a post for another day 😄)
Experiencing my own home birth was the spark to return to midwifery. In 2023 I completed the Sensitive Midwifery Course and a six-month coaching program with Magreet Barnardt.
Over the past two years, I’ve had the privilege of stepping back into the birthing world here in PE. Connecting with local doulas, assisting Michelle as a backup midwife for home births, and gaining experience at Heart for Alternatives Care Centre, where we offer pregnancy tests, counseling, and support for women in crisis. This year, I’ve also started offering antenatal classes for the centre’s moms.
So that’s me in a nutshell 🥜.
Oh, and if you’re ever up for an open water ocean swim 🌊 in our beautiful bay, I’m your girl 😉
As for what’s next… I’m still finding my way as a private midwife in PE, but I hope to offer:
🤰 Antenatal care
🏡 Home births
💆♀️ Doula support for hospital births
👶🏻 Postnatal and breastfeeding support
Drop me a follow if you'd like to see how I get on with this endeavor, OR if you are birth worker in PE; let's connect ☕️!
