THE GLOW IN YOUR CHILD’S EYE ISN’T ALWAYS A CAMERA GLITCH

But if you notice it repeatedly in photos, especially in the same eye, it could be a sign of an underlying eye condition.

Early detection can make a life-changing difference.

COULD A PHOTO SAVE A CHILD’S SIGHT?

Yes, it absolutely could and most parents aren’t aware of this simple sight-saving practice.

In fact, many parents haven’t heard of leukocoria, a white glow that can sometimes appear in a child’s eye.

While it can occasionally be a camera effect, a glow that appears repeatedly in the same eye in photos should never be ignored.

It may be an early warning sign of a serious eye condition that requires urgent attention.

We’ve unpacked everything parents and caregivers need to know in our latest article.

Why a white reflection in a child’s eye should never be ignored Parents spend the better part of their children’s lives taking hundreds, sometimes thousands, of photos. 3 THINGS NOBODY TELLS YOU ABOUT YOUR EYES & CONTACT LENSES 👁️👀

1. YOUR CORNEA NEEDS OXYGEN
Contact lenses act like a barrier, so less oxygen reaches your eye. That's why wearing them for longer than recommended isn't a good idea.

2. CONTACT LENSES CAN BECOME UNCOMFORTABLE OVER TIME
If your eyes often feel dry, itchy or irritated, especially after a long day, your contact lenses could be contributing to the problem.

3. CLEAR VISION DOESN'T ALWAYS MEAN HEALTHY EYES
Even if your contacts feel comfortable and you can see perfectly, regular eye exams are still essential to check the health of your eyes.

Get educated on contact lens health and read our interesting article about the hidden impact of contact lenses on your eyes https://jhbeye.com/contact-lenses/.

CAIRS, WHAT IS IT AND WHEN IS IT NEEDED?

If you've been diagnosed with Keratoconus, you may have come across the term CAIRS and wondered what it is.

CAIRS (Corneal Allogenic Intrastromal Ring Segments) is a specialised treatment used for more advanced cases of Keratoconus, particularly when first-line treatment, such as Corneal Cross-Linking (CXL), hasn't been enough to stabilise the condition.

Using specially prepared donor corneal tissue, CAIRS helps improve the shape and stability of the cornea. For suitable patients, this may lead to better vision and may reduce the need for a more invasive procedure, such as a corneal graft.

It's important to remember that not everyone with Keratoconus needs CAIRS. Every eye is different, which is why a thorough assessment is essential.

Curious to learn more? We've unpacked what CAIRS is, who it's for, how it works and its potential benefits in our latest article.

MYTH: If your vision keeps getting worse, you probably just need stronger glasses.

TRUTH: Frequent prescription changes can sometimes be a sign of Keratoconus.
As the cornea changes shape, vision can become increasingly blurred or distorted, even with updated glasses or contact lenses.

If your prescription seems to change every year, go get your eyes checked. You can book a FREE refractive screening with us. https://jhbeye.com/refractive-laser-procedures/

RUB YOUR EYES A LOT?
THIS IS SOMETHING YOU SHOULD KNOW

Winter can leave eyes feeling dry, itchy and irritated. But if you're constantly rubbing your eyes for relief, you could be damaging them.

Too much eye rubbing has been linked to the progression of Keratoconus, an eye condition where the cornea (the clear front surface of the eye) gradually becomes thinner and bulges outward into a cone shape. This can lead to blurred and distorted vision.

When you’re tempted to rub your eyes, avoid doing it with your knuckles or applying pressure directly onto the eyeball. Instead, gently touch your closed eyelids using clean fingertips.

Better yet, treat the cause of the irritation with appropriate dry eye care. Serum eye drops are a good immediate solution. You can find out more about them by clicking the link.https://jhbeye.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/EYE-Serum.pdf

If your vision is often blurry and distorted, you may have Keratoconus. But there is good news for early detection. A treatment called Cross Linking can help strengthen the cornea and slow or stop the progression of it. Find out more about it here. https://jhbeye.com/refractive-laser-procedures/ .
