💙 Learning happens in so many different ways at Aldeia!

Sometimes the best learning doesn't happen behind a desk. It happens through movement, play, teamwork, laughter and doing things together. 🌱

Activities like these give our children opportunities to practise so much more than the task itself. They encourage communication, turn-taking, following instructions, problem-solving, coordination and social interaction, all while having FUN! 🙌

And perhaps the best part? Our children are learning and connecting without it always feeling like learning. 💙

Because development isn't only about what a child can do on paper. It's about building the skills and confidence they need for everyday life.

🧠✨ When Autism and ADHD overlap: Understanding AuDHD

You may have heard the term AuDHD appearing more often. It is an informal term used to describe someone who is both autistic and has ADHD.

And sometimes, the combination can look a little contradictory from the outside.

A child may:
💙 Crave routine… but struggle to follow one
💛 Want predictability… but constantly seek novelty
💙 Become deeply focused on an interest… but struggle to focus on everyday tasks
💛 Want friendships… but find social interaction exhausting or confusing
💙 Need sensory input… while also becoming easily overwhelmed by it
💛 Have lots of ideas… but struggle to organise, start or finish tasks
💙 Hold everything together all day… and completely unravel once they feel safe at home

This is why looking only at behaviour can sometimes miss what is really happening underneath.

The question isn't always “Why won't my child do this?”

Sometimes a better question is:

“What is making this difficult for my child right now?” 🌱

Understanding the why allows us to support regulation, executive functioning, communication, learning and confidence rather than simply trying to change behaviour.

Different brain. Different needs. Different strengths. 💙

🍶🫗 Capacity is the container… Volume is the SPLASH! 💦😄

Today our smart learners at Aldeia Noordheuwel took learning out of the textbook and into their own hands!

By pouring, measuring, comparing and experimenting, they explored the difference between capacity and volume in a way they could actually see, touch and experience. 🧠✨

Because sometimes the best way to understand a concept is to DO it! 💙

A little mess, a lot of learning, and plenty of fun along the way! 💦🌈

🎨✨ Dot Art with a Twist! ✨🎨

To celebrate World Left-Handers Day, our Aldeia Cape Town learners explored the colourful world of dot art — but with an extra challenge! 👈🖌️

They had to create their masterpieces using their left hands! 🙌

It wasn’t quite as easy as it looked, but what a wonderful opportunity to work on concentration, patience, coordination and determination while having plenty of fun along the way. 💪😊

Sometimes learning happens when we step outside our comfort zones, try something unfamiliar and discover that we CAN do hard things. 🌈💛

Well done to our learners for embracing the challenge! 💙

✨ A little reminder that can make a BIG difference! 💙

The way our children think about themselves, speak to themselves and see themselves matters. 🌈

Positive self-talk isn’t about pretending everything is easy. It’s about helping children learn that mistakes are part of learning, challenges can be worked through, and they are capable of trying again. 🧠💫

Sometimes changing “I can’t do this” to “I can’t do this YET” is a small shift with a powerful impact. 💙

Let’s help our children build an inner voice that encourages them, believes in them and reminds them just how capable they are. 🌱
