Recovery isn't just about what you stop doing.

It's about what you start building.

For many people, addiction slowly begins to replace the things that once brought meaning to life.

Relationships become strained.
Hobbies disappear.
Goals feel further away.

Daily routines become focused on simply getting through the day.

Recovery offers something incredibly powerful.
The opportunity to build again.

Not necessarily the same life you had before.

But perhaps one that's even healthier.

One with structure.
Purpose.
People who support your growth.
Time for yourself.
Confidence that grows through keeping promises to yourself one day at a time.

At the Recovery Centre at White River, we believe these are the foundations of long-term recovery.

Because sobriety isn't simply about avoiding substances.

It's about creating a life that feels meaningful enough that you don't want to leave it behind.

If you're ready to begin building that future, we'd be honoured to help.

A different setting. A different approach. A new beginning. 🌿🇿🇦

At The Recovery Centre at White River, recovery takes place in a safe, structured environment surrounded by the extraordinary beauty of South Africa.

Our six-week and Twelve week programme is built around a strong 12-Step foundation, supported by a range of clinical and therapeutic modalities that allow us to look at the individual as a whole. Our experienced clinical team brings real passion to their work, with many of our staff having walked their own recovery journeys and understanding first-hand both the challenges and rewards of recovery.

But recovery doesn’t have to happen within four walls.

We are incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by the landscapes and experiences that make this part of South Africa so special. Equine therapy, time outdoors and carefully planned excursions into the bush — including opportunities to experience the incredible Kruger National Park — all form part of a holistic approach designed to help people reconnect with themselves, their surroundings and the world around them.

At the heart of everything, though, is community.

Being surrounded by people who understand what you are going through can be incredibly powerful. Your peers become a source of encouragement, honesty and support, while the structure of the programme provides the stability needed to focus on making meaningful changes.

Our aim is not simply to help someone stop using. It is to help them rediscover hope, rebuild relationships, find purpose and begin to see a future that feels worth living.

And we believe exceptional care should be accessible. The Recovery Centre offers a clinically led, comprehensive six-week programme at an accessible price, making high-quality recovery support available to more people.

If you’re wondering whether The Recovery Centre could be right for you or someone you love, get in touch for an informal conversation. No pressure, no judgement — just a conversation about what might be possible.

No one builds recovery alone.

One of the greatest myths about addiction is that recovery is simply a matter of willpower.

If that were true, far fewer people would struggle.

Recovery is built through connection.

Through learning new coping skills.
Through accountability.
Through people who understand the journey because they've walked it too.

At Recovery Centre at White River, our programmes are designed to provide more than treatment.

We provide a community where individuals can continue developing the confidence, structure, and resilience needed for long-term recovery.

Because lasting recovery isn't created in isolation.
It's created together.

If you're looking for a place where recovery continues long after treatment, we'd love to tell you more about The Recovery Centre at White River.

One of the biggest surprises about recovery?

Life doesn't suddenly become perfect.
You still have difficult days.
Stress still happens.
Relationships still require work.

The difference is...

You learn that you don't have to face those moments the way you used to.

Recovery isn't the absence of challenges.
It's discovering healthier ways to move through them.
That's progress.
And that's something worth celebrating.

Recovery is built one day at a time. If you're ready to take the next step, we're here to help.

Recovery doesn't begin the day you stop using. It begins the day you start believing your future can look different.

Many people think recovery is about what you're giving up.

Alcohol.
Drugs.
Old habits.
Old relationships.

But lasting recovery is rarely built around what you leave behind.

It's built around what you're moving towards.

A healthy routine.
Meaningful work.
Honest relationships.
Confidence.
Purpose.
The ability to wake up each morning knowing you're creating a life that feels worth protecting.

At White River Recovery, Centre that's what we focus on.

Recovery isn't simply about staying sober. It's about learning how to live well again.

Through evidence-based therapy, recovery-focused programming, peer support, life skills, and a community that understands the journey, we help people build the foundation for long-term recovery.

Because sobriety is the beginning. Not the destination.

If you or someone you love is ready to begin again, we'd be honoured to help.

Recovery is about so much more than giving something up – it's about discovering everything that's possible when you begin living again.

At White River Recovery Centre, our structured six-week, 12-Step programme gives clients the support, guidance and tools they need to build lasting recovery. Alongside therapy and group work, we encourage people to reconnect with the world around them through healthy activities, time in nature and new experiences.

South Africa offers an incredible backdrop for that journey. Whether it's a walk in the bush, spending time outdoors or enjoying a round of golf, these experiences remind us that recovery can be rewarding, fulfilling and full of opportunity.

This photo of our Founder, Giles Fourie, enjoying a round of golf with Ben Camp from Recovery.com and Wade Muhlhauser from Plugged In Recovery during the Recovery.com Marketing Summit in Madison is a great reminder that no matter where we are in the world, recovery is built on connection, wellbeing and community.
Those same values are at the heart of everything we do at White River Recovery Centre, helping people build not just recovery—but a life they can truly enjoy.

One of our recent client excursions took us to the driving range, where everyone enjoyed a fantastic afternoon of fresh air, laughter and a little friendly competition.

While it may look like just a game of golf, these experiences are an important part of our holistic approach to recovery.

At The Recovery Centre, we believe that healing happens not only during therapy sessions but also through reconnecting with life, building confidence, trying new experiences and enjoying meaningful moments with others. Every excursion is thoughtfully chosen to support the therapeutic journey, encouraging clients to step outside their comfort zones, develop new interests and rediscover the simple pleasures that can sometimes be lost during periods of struggle.

Whether it's learning a new skill, spending time in nature or simply sharing a laugh with peers, every activity has a purpose. Recovery is about more than overcoming challenges—it's about rebuilding a life that feels fulfilling, balanced and enjoyable.
Our therapeutic programme remains at the heart of everything we do, and experiences like these complement the clinical work by promoting wellbeing, resilience and connection.
Sometimes, the smallest moments create the biggest breakthroughs.

Maybe it's time to rethink what recovery looks like.

Recovery isn't about sitting in a room all day.

It's about reconnecting with yourself. Building healthy routines. Learning new ways to cope. Exercising, laughing, sharing meals, spending time outdoors, and discovering that life without addiction can be fulfilling again.

At White River Recovery, our structured programme combines evidence-based therapy with fitness, wellness, community, outdoor activities and personal development, because lasting recovery is about healing the whole person—not just treating the addiction.

One of the reasons White River Recovery was established was to make high-quality residential treatment accessible to more people. We believe everyone deserves the opportunity to recover in a supportive, professional environment, which is why we've worked hard to offer one of the most competitively priced residential programmes of its kind—without compromising on the quality of care.

If you've been putting off reaching out because you thought residential treatment wasn't affordable, we'd love to have a confidential conversation with you. You may be pleasantly surprised.

Recovery starts with one conversation.

As Alcohol Awareness Week begins we ask the question : When does a social drink become something more?

For many people, alcohol is simply part of everyday life—a drink with friends, a beer while watching the game, or a glass of wine to unwind after work.

For others, the relationship with alcohol changes so gradually that it's difficult to recognise when social drinking has become something that's relied upon to cope.

The question isn't always "How much am I drinking?"

Sometimes the more important question is "Why am I drinking?"

At White River Recovery, we understand that alcohol dependency is rarely the root cause. More often, it's a way of coping with stress, anxiety, trauma, grief, burnout, or other emotional challenges.

That's why our approach goes beyond simply helping people stop drinking. Through our structured residential programme, we work to understand the underlying causes of addiction, helping each individual develop healthier coping strategies, rebuild confidence, and create the foundations for lasting recovery.
This Alcohol Awareness Week, if you've found yourself
questioning your relationship with alcohol—or you're worried about someone you care about—don't ignore those feelings. Recognising that something needs to change is often the first and most important step.

Whether you're looking for advice, exploring treatment options, or simply want to have a confidential conversation, our team is here to help. There is no pressure and no obligation—just experienced professionals who will listen, answer your questions, and help you understand the options available to you.

Recovery starts with a conversation, and we're here whenever you're ready.

🌿 What if recovery began with structure, safety, and stability—and then evolved from there?

At the White River Recovery Centre, we believe that recovery is most effective when it begins in a structured, safe, and clinically supported environment—one where individuals can stabilise, focus, and begin meaningful therapeutic work without distraction or uncertainty.

Our primary programme is designed to provide exactly that foundation. It combines clinical expertise, multidisciplinary care, and a clear daily structure that supports clients through the most critical early stages of recovery. This allows individuals to address the physical, psychological, and behavioural aspects of addiction within a contained and supportive setting.

As progress is made, treatment does not end—it evolves.

Clients move through a carefully planned step-down pathway that gradually increases independence while maintaining strong therapeutic support and clinical oversight. This transition helps individuals rebuild routine, strengthen resilience, and begin re-engaging with everyday life in a supported and intentional way.
Where appropriate, this pathway can extend into the wider White River Medical Group (WRM) network, offering ongoing secondary support that reinforces recovery and provides continuity beyond the primary treatment phase.

We also recognise that recovery involves the whole family. Loved ones are supported throughout the journey with family therapy, guidance, and continued engagement after treatment—helping to rebuild trust, understanding, and long-term stability at home.
At White River Recovery Centre, we don’t see recovery as a single stage or location. We see it as a structured journey—one that adapts as the individual grows, and continues long after the primary programme ends.

If you would like to learn more about our primary programme and step-down support into WRM, please contact Michele Morphitis (MBACP) or David Scourfield.
