KWNCH Receives Linen Donation from Kabwe Chapel to Boost Patient Care

Kabwe, Zambia – The Kabwe Women, Newborn and Children’s Hospital (KWNCH) today received a generous donation of assorted linen from Kabwe Chapel, a gesture aimed at supporting patient comfort and improving the quality of care at the facility.

In receiving the donation on behalf of the hospital, Dr. Garvin Kalombo, Acting Head, Clinical Care, expressed gratitude to the donors for their timely and thoughtful contribution. He noted that the items will supplement management’s efforts to ensure that patients receive dignified and quality care during their stay at the hospital.

The Chapel delegation was led by Pastors Shadbold and Muwowo, who reaffirmed the church’s commitment to partnering with health institutions in meeting community needs.

KABWE — In a strategic move to fortify clinical care and disease surveillance, healthcare workers at Kabwe Women, Newborn and Children's Hospital have undergone a comprehensive orientation on the National Multi-pathogen Diagnostics Program (NMPDP).

The specialized training session was spearheaded by Dr. Matibula Peter, a distinguished Physician and Infectious Disease Specialist based at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) -Adult in Lusaka. He facilitated the orientation to align front-line clinicians with national health security priorities.

The primary objective of the NMPDP is to significantly scale up local capacity for multi-pathogen diagnostics across Zambia. By transitioning from traditional, single-target testing to integrated, advanced diagnostic frameworks, the program seeks to achieve a dual impact: enhancing patient-centred clinical care and establishing robust, real-time surveillance systems for infectious diseases nationwide.

During the orientation, Dr. Matibula emphasized the pivotal role that front-line institutions like Kabwe Women, Newborn and Children's Hospital play in this epidemiological shift. The integration of advanced diagnostic workflows ensures that vulnerable patient populations particularly mothers and newborns receive rapid, highly accurate pathogen identification, reducing empirical treatment failures and improving clinical recovery rates.

The successful orientation marks a critical milestone in cascading specialised knowledge from tertiary centres like UTH to provincial hubs, ensuring that the benefits of high-tier medical science directly serve local communities in Kabwe and the broader Central Province.

Kabwe Hospital Drives Malaria Awareness Through Live Radio Broadcast

Kabwe – The Kabwe Women, Newborn and Children’s Hospital (KWNCH) has successfully hosted a live radio presentation on Radio Maranatha aimed at strengthening community awareness and prevention of malaria.

The broadcast focused on educating the public on practical measures to combat the disease, including the importance of early recognition of symptoms and timely health-seeking behavior. During the session, health staff from KWNCH underscored key preventive strategies, among them the consistent use of insecticide-treated mosquito nets and active environmental management to eliminate mosquito breeding sites. Listeners were also reminded to adhere to nationally recommended malaria prevention practices.

Kabwe, Zambia – KWNCH today participated in the commemoration of African Public Service Day, an event graced by the Provincial Permanent Secretary for Central Province.

Held under the shade of the historic Mukuyu Tree, the colourful ceremony was convened under the theme: _“Enhancing Public Sector Institutions and Empowering Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships to Achieve Universal Water Availability and Safe Sanitation by 2063.”_

The commemoration brought together government officials, health workers, and community stakeholders to reflect on the role of public service in advancing sustainable development goals, with a particular focus on water and sanitation.

KWNCH’s participation underscored the hospital’s commitment to collaborating with government and partners to strengthen public health services and support national efforts toward universal access to safe water and sanitation by 2063.
