I am scared of getting married because of how church people abandoned my dad Joseph Moyo
It's because church hurt, leaves deep scars that make trust feel unsafe.
GROWING UP
Growing up my dad seemed like the most loved man in my church community. It seemed as though people would be willing to die for or with him. Our home was filled with people from early morning, till late evening and his office dad couldn't even afford to rest
THE ABANDONMENT
But when he got sick, his bank accounts and his aid warehouses empty, they run away. Some even said they didn't know him
I remember church people would come to pray for my dad for the success of his ministry or charitable causes, but when he got sick, they stopped, at a time he needed them most
THE IMPACT OF THE ABANDONMENT
The impact of the abandonment on the whole family has been seismic. The whole family. They are silent, but it's eating them because we talk about the experience
But for me it has taken a huge toll because of being my dad's front line for all his medical needs daily- 24/7. I see his pain first hand, i hear his pain. I feel his pain. Above all, I am a partaker of his suffering by proximity
MARRIAGE
Looking back, I am afraid of getting married because I don't know if one day some strange man says " FOR BETTER OR WORSE, they will mean it
I ask myself, what if I will get sick , Will that strange man stay?
What if I can't have s*x with him will he still love me?
What if I don't conceive and I can't bear children, will he still love me since most men value women for s*x and child bearing?
Based on how society especially church community has treated my dad, I am scared. My faith in humanity is gone
I don't have marriage plans, my plan is my dad's life alone undistracted until he is healed or passes on. My life is in my dad's life. I will never walk away like those who walked away from him. I am here to the very end, the end which only God knows
I am scared to entertain any idea of marriage one day. It will take heaven for me to even think about. My faith in humanity is gone. I have the fear that everyone leaves when life gets messy because I saw it happen to my beloved sick dad in the most gustly and brutal way
FRIENDS:
I have zero friends outside my family. My dad is my number one friend and confidant. I last had friends early 2015
LOVE IS EVERYTHING, MONEY IS NOT EVERYTHING
I don't have silver or gold, but I am here for my dad. It is a testament that love is everything, money is not everything. We can care and show love simply by being genuinely there for others. That is the reality. Abandoning those we were close to in their difficulty times, only exposes us for who we are. That we didn't love them, but we only loved what they had
Yes God will heal dad, he will heal me and he will heal us, but the truth must be told no matter how uncomfortable it is. The reality is that my dad Joseph Moyo was not loved or surrounded for being human, he was loved for what he had, but when what had disappeared, humanity disappeared. That is a scary prospect for me
Those who abandoned or run away from my dad, have only made me more determined to stay for him no matter the cost
Thankfully though they abandoned him, God stayed, his family has stayed. I have stayed
When humanity walks away, there's one who stays and that is - God
ONLY IN GOD WE TRUST
