The WMO Global Seasonal Climate Update indicates that a strong El Niño rapidly developing during July–September 2026.

Seasonal forecasts for the next three months reflect a strengthening El Niño, with:
🌧️ Above-normal rainfall across the central and eastern equatorial Pacific
☀️ Below-normal rainfall across parts of the tropical Indian Ocean, the Indian subcontinent, and much of Australia
🌡️ Above-average temperatures across most land areas, including nearly all populated regions outside the poles.

✅ Protect yourself and your family, during night temperatures wear sunscreen and keep indoors.

✅ Adapt to climate resilient agriculture. Drought resistant crops will serve the day in times of severe drought.

✅ Avoid areas that are prone to flooding. Stay alert and follow weather updates and warnings.

Ebola Virus Disease outbreak confirmed in Ituri Province, the DRC

Africa CDC is closely monitoring the situation and convening an urgent high-level coordination meeting today with the DRC, Uganda, South Sudan and global partners to reinforce cross-border surveillance, preparedness and outbreak response efforts.

Following consultations with DRC’s Ministry of Health and National Public Health Institute, preliminary laboratory results from L’Institut National de Recherche Biomédical - INRB Kinshasa detected Ebola virus in 13 of 20 samples tested.

About 246 suspected cases and 65 deaths have been reported, mainly in the Mongwalu and Rwampara health zones. Four deaths have been reported among laboratory-confirmed cases. Suspected cases have also been reported in Bunia, pending confirmation.

𝗛𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗿𝘂𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮 𝗿𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘇𝗼𝗼𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀.
It is a systems warning.

When environmental disruption, weak surveillance, unsafe housing, climate variability, and human–animal interaction converge, outbreaks stop being isolated clinical events and become governance challenges.

The next generation of outbreak preparedness will not be built by health systems alone.

It will require a true 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 architecture integrating:
• Public health
• Environmental surveillance
• Community systems
• Data intelligence
• Risk communication
• Multi-sector coordination

In an era of accelerating ecological and epidemiological change, the countries that invest early in surveillance, prevention, and cross-sector preparedness will not only save lives but they will build resilient societies.

Access to quality health care is not a privilege, it is a fundamental right. In Zambia, this right is deeply connected to the strength of our health workforce. Today, the conversation around health care recruitment is more important than ever.

Over the years, Zambia has made progress in training doctors, nurses, clinical officers, and other health professionals. However, many communities especially in rural and underserved areas continue to face serious shortages of qualified health workers. Long waiting times, limited access to specialized care, and overburdened staff are everyday realities for many citizens.

Why Health Care Recruitment Matters
A strong recruitment system ensures that:
✔️ Health facilities are adequately staffed
✔️ Patients receive timely and quality care
✔️ Health workers are not overworked and can perform effectively
✔️ Rural and urban communities receive equitable services

Our Collective Responsibility
Health care recruitment is not just a government issue, it is a national concern. Citizens, civil society, and policymakers must work together to demand accountability and sustainable solutions.
