Not so many people actually know that people that have cancer die because of various reasons, sometimes reasons that may not even be related to the cancer itself. One very important aspect that influences the outcome of the cancer is the ability to detect the cancer early on so that it can be treated effectively thus prolonging the survival rates of patients that would otherwise have a poor prognosis if the cancer was found at a much later stage.
Bladder cancer is about three times much more common in men than women and additionally even much more common in individuals that smoke. Other risk factors include exposure to certain industrial chemicals that may be occupational related, as well as long term use of certain medications. In some parts of the country a certain parasite called ‘Schistosoma’ increases the risk of bladder cancer. This parasite is actually the cause of the condition referred to as ‘urinary schistosomiasis’ or ‘bilharzia’. The first symptom that may indicate bladder cancer is blood in the urine (hematuria) which we talked about yesterday.
If you are having symptoms suggestive of bladder cancer, get checked today, the sooner the better for you. Stay happy and stay healthy!
