Do you know about the new HIV prevention injection? Here is what you need to know.

1. What is LEN?

LEN (Lenacapavir) is a new injection that helps protect you from getting HIV.

You get one injection every six months — and you are protected. No daily pills to remember.

2. Who can get it?

LEN is for people who do not have HIV but are at risk of getting it. For example:

- Young women and girls at risk
- People whose partner has HIV
- People with more than one sexual partner
- S*x workers

3. Who cannot get it?

- People who already have HIV
- Anyone who has not been tested for HIV first

4. Why is LEN a good option?

✅ One injection protects you for six months
✅ You do not need to take a pill every day
✅ It is private and easy to use
✅ It is highly effective when given correctly

5. What LEN does NOT do

❌ LEN does not cure HIV
❌ LEN does not treat HIV
❌ LEN does not protect against other infections or pregnancy — keep using condoms

6. What happens before you get the injection?

A health worker will first:
- Test you for HIV
- Ask you some questions about your health
- Help you decide if LEN is right for you

7. Where can you get it?

Through the SCALE-IT project, LEN is now being brought to communities across Zambia. Ask your nearest health worker or community mobiliser for more information.

Building Our Advocacy Muscle for an HIV Cure

Two of our team members, recently completed a 5-day HIV CUREiculum Cascade Training organised by African Alliance Zambia and the Africa HIV Cure Consortium (AHCC), held at the CIDRZ VenYou Center here in Lusaka.

The training covered everything from HIV science and bioethics to clinical pipelines and community advocacy — equipping participants to meaningfully engage in cure research conversations and hold researchers accountable to the communities they serve.

From understanding how the latent HIV reservoir works, to debating the ethics of Analytical Treatment Interruptions, to mapping advocacy all the way from local to global platforms — our team came back sharper, more informed, and ready to push for the 2030 cure target.

At TALC, we believe knowledge is power — especially when it's in the hands of community advocates. 💪

SCALE-IT Onboarding: Introducing Lenacapavir PrEP to Communities Across Zambia

Our TALC team joined the UTH-HAP team on the ground in ten districts — Solwezi, Kitwe, Nakonde, Chingola, Kapiri Mposhi, Lusaka, Chilanga, Mazabuka, Livingstone and Chipata — to kick off field onboarding for the SCALE-IT Zambia project.

The visits involved introducing the project to district health offices and facility staff, identifying community hotspots for service delivery, and recruiting community-based volunteers (CBVs) who will help bring long-acting injectable PrEP directly to the people who need it most.

Community Champions were engaged across all ten districts, including Mentor Mothers, peer navigators, adolescent representatives, and key population volunteers.

The communities were welcoming. They told us directly: reduced clinic visits and injectable options are exactly what people need. We listened — and we're building around that. 👂

Designing the Digital Tools That Will Change How Zambia Delivers PrEP

Our team recently participated in a 5-day Requirements Gathering Workshop for the My Moyo App —the digital platform designed to bring PrEP closer to everyone who needs it.

Held at Sandy's Creations, the workshop brought together consortium partners to map out exactly what the app needs to do in the real world.

The team locked in system requirements that will shape how the ordinary individuals, community mobilisers, peer educators, and health workers deliver and receive long-acting injectable PrEP (Lenacapavir) in Zambia.

TALC was in the room, making sure the community voice shaped every decision. 🙌
