On 12 May 2026, The Lancet announced the new name at the European Congress of Endocrinology.

Naturopathic practitioners have understood this for many years and have worked with woman on the understanding that this is a multi-hormonal condition as well as metabolic dysfunction. Naturopathic medicine does not treat the symptom, but rather balances all systems involved to achieve overall health.

The name change is important in that it shapes future research, creates public awareness and moves away from stigmatism, provides a better patient understanding and increases treatment options. Although the allopathic approach does not change much for now, there is still a better awareness and understanding of this syndrome.
