The Zimbabwe Rainbow Community commemorated the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia on May 17 under the theme “At the Heart of Democracy,” reaffirming its advocacy for the rights and dignity of LGBT+ people in Zimbabwe.
The organization called for stronger protections against discrimination and violence targeting individuals based on s*xual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression. The organization emphasized that inclusion is essential to democratic participation and urged legal and social reforms to ensure equal treatment under the law and access to healthcare, employment, and public services without prejudice.
The community also highlighted the specific vulnerabilities faced by male s*x workers, noting that stigma and criminalization often expose them to increased risk of abuse and exclusion. The Zimbabwe Rainbow Community pledged to continue documenting rights violations and to advocate for policy changes to address these gaps.
