PSMAS Brings Health Focus to PSC Retirement Conference in Mutare
At the Public Service Commission's Retirement Conference currently underway here in Mutare, Manicaland province, one message is resonating with particular clarity: retirement planning is about more than just money. For the Premier Service Medical Aid Society (PSMAS), which is participating as both an exhibitor and a panelist at the event, the future of retirement hinges on healthcare security.
The three-day conference, which started yesterday and is running under the theme: Bridging the Gaps: Sustainable Retirement Solutions for Public Sector Workers, has drawn public servants from across the country to the Mutare Sports Pavilion.
At the heart of the action is the PSMAS "Retirement Wellness Hub," where delegates are receiving more than just information. Health screenings are being conducted on-site, offering a practical reminder that a healthy retirement begins long before the last working day. PSMAS officials are on hand to engage delegates attending the conference on issues ranging from managing chronic conditions like hypertension and diabetes to the importance of cardiac health and mental wellbeing.
"Prevention is better than cure," a core message from PSMAS's Premier Lifestyle programme. The Society is encouraging workers to consider how medical needs, which often escalate with age, will be met once their formal income changes. PSMAS's wide network of healthcare providers is designed to ensure that access to quality care remains uninterrupted.
Speaking during the official opening of the conference, Commission chairman Dr Vincent Hungwe announced the completion of the Public Service Retirement Planning Policy, a comprehensive framework addressing financial preparedness, health, and social integration. "One of the major milestones that we are proud to present at this conference is the completion of the Public Service Retirement Planning Policy," Dr Hungwe stated.
The conference provides a vital platform for PSMAS to reinforce that a dignified retirement is a blend of financial stability and sustained wellness. By combining on-the-ground health assessments with expert panel discussions, the Society is helping public servants build a retirement that is not only secure but also healthy.
