🤝 Meet the Minds Behind WCD 2027 | A content series highlighting personalities behind WCD 2027, showcasing their expertise and role in shaping the congress.
Episode 1: Prof. Luc Thomas

Registration for the IDS opens this summer, in August, and before we get there, we’d like to introduce some of the key people helping bring the congress to life.

🙏 We begin with Prof. Luc Thomas, President of the Congress... a dermatologist and dermato-oncologist, Prof. Luc Thomas is recognized for his work in skin oncology, early diagnosis of melanoma, dermoscopy, skin surgery, and nail diseases. He has published more than 600 peer-reviewed scientific articles in international journals, is the co-editor of four books published in several languages, and co-author of more than 25 books. He was a member of the board of the most recent World Congress of Dermatology held in France, which took place in Paris in 2002.

👥 As WCD 2027 takes shape, his leadership helps set the tone for a congress designed to bring together the global dermoscopy community around innovation, education, and progress in the field.
Stay tuned as we spotlight more of the people shaping WCD 2027.

Dear Colleagues,

We invite you to participate in an anonymous international survey exploring dermatologists’ current approaches to the initial surgical management of melanoma. The survey aims to identify current practices, areas of consensus, and variations in melanoma management across different countries and healthcare settings.

The survey takes approximately 5–10 minutes to complete, and all responses are anonymous. We would be grateful for your participation and encourage you to share the survey with dermatology colleagues in your network.

Here is the link to the survey:

Kind regards,

Ebba Wennberg, PhD Student
John Paoli, Professor

☀️ As summer begins, UV exposure increases, reminding us of how essential skin cancer awareness truly is.

As the World Congress of Dermoscopy brings together the global dermoscopy community, this is also a timely reminder that awareness, vigilance, and early recognition remain central in the fight against skin cancer.

From May 12 to 14, several sessions will directly address these topics, including 2 plenary sessions and 3 scientific sessions:
- Plenary 1 - Treatment of Melanoma
- SC09 - The melanocytomas and Spitzoid spectrum
- SC12 - Melanoma epidemiology: lessons to be learned
- Plenary 2 - Biology and Pathology of Melanoma
- SC22 - Melanocytic nevi - Why worry?

Two inspiring days in beautiful Gothenburg for the International Dermoscopy Society brainstorming meeting, kindly hosted by John Paoli ✨

We had productive discussions about the future academic projects of the IDS, shared new ideas, and shaped upcoming opinion papers and recommendation papers together.
It was incredibly motivating to see so many passionate minds working toward the same goal: improving education, collaboration, and the future of dermoscopy worldwide 🌍

Beyond the meetings, it was also a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with colleagues and friends, exchange experiences, and create new ideas together.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to these inspiring two days! Looking forward to the exciting projects ahead
