Reconciliation is everyone’s responsibility, and local events are a great way to listen, learn, connect and take action together.

There are many ways to get involved and show your support, so take part in an event near you!

LEADERSHIP UPDATE

Our inaugural CEO Robbi Williams is resigning from his employment with inhousing, JFA Purple Orange, and the JFM Fund (collectively, the Julia Farr group), for family reasons.

In a message to staff Robbi said: “It has been a great privilege to have given 19 years of service to the Julia Farr Association, and longer to our housing association and grant-making trust as CEO of the former Julia Farr Services. While I am sad to step down because of family health issues that meant I have been largely absent for the past year, I know the organisation is in great shape and has a strong future because of the efforts of so many good people”.

Robbi will remain on leave until his departure on 3 July 2026. We thank Robbi for his service and wish him the best for the future.

Our Interim CEO Tracey Wallace will remain in the role until 31 March 2027.

Over the past six months, we have been building the foundations of our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan.

We have recently embarked on the first stage of our RAP to ensure our organisation is a place of integrity, respect and cultural safety for First Nations peoples.

For us, this is not a symbolic document. It is a commitment to learn, to listen and to build relationships grounded in respect.

Our Reflect RAP includes 35 deliverables to be completed by August 2026. In the first six months, we have progressed 24 of them.

Some of the key steps so far include:
- Launching our RAP internally and sharing our commitment to reconciliation with staff
- Creating a dedicated staff hub with cultural learning resources, including training, webinars, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, our respectful language guide, and information about National Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC Week
- Reviewing our cultural learning needs and delivering cultural awareness training, with further training and induction learning planned
- Building our understanding of the Kaurna people, the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the lands and waters where our Unley office is located
- Strengthening inclusive recruitment practices, including welcoming applications from First Nations people and sharing opportunities through Turkindi, South Australia’s Aboriginal information network
- Establishing a RAP Working Group, including Aboriginal members, that meets monthly to guide and progress this work
- Beginning research and relationship-building with First Nations stakeholders and businesses

We acknowledge that we are at the beginning of our reconciliation journey.

As an organisation led by our values, we are committed to listening, learning and building respectful relationships. We are also building our understanding of how colonisation and ableism intersect for First Nations people with disability.

We are committed to sharing what we learn along the way, to support transparency and accountability in our reconciliation journey.

If you would like to learn more about our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan and the work we are undertaking, we invite you to read our RAP on our website: https://inhousing.org.au/about-us/reconciliation-action-plan

We welcome feedback as we continue this journey.

Eye gaze is a game changer when voice-control isn't an option đź‘€

This demo shows Kate (OT) using eye gaze to control everyday home features like blinds, lights, and more.

Our tech is about increasing access because for some people, everyday tasks like opening a door or turning on a light can require support.

Assistive technology puts that control back in their hands (or in this case, their eyes), helping reduce reliance on others and support independence at home.

Same smart home. Different access.

---
VD: A demonstration filmed at the ATSA Independent Living Expo at the Adelaide Showgrounds. Occupational therapist, Kate, uses eye gaze technology to control a smart home setup. By looking at options on a screen, they activate the blind and fan, turn a light on, and change the light colour. The video shows how eye gaze can be used as an alternative way to access and control everyday tasks within the home.
