As many of you probably know, supporting climate action and solutions and environmental protection are close to my heart. This past summer I offered a few beach yoga sessions by donation, with all money going towards Groundswell. You might have been wondering what this is. Below are the projects and groups selected to receive financial support from the latest round of grants.

NGARDARA COMMUNITY MICROGRID
A First Nations-owned renewable energy project in Borroloola NT is now moving into construction after years of community-led development. This grant will support the governance, systems and local workforce development needed to ensure community ownership is built to last and the model can be replicated in other communities.

ENVIRONMENT CENTRE NT
The fight to stop fracking in the NT is at a tipping point. After two decades holding back the industry, major polluters Santos, Inpex and APA are ramping up their plans to move to full-scale production. This grant will go towards a national social media campaign to mobilise public pressure in targeted constituencies and stop frackers once and for all.

MARKET FORCES
Australia's biggest banks are funding companies pushing to open the Beetaloo Basin to fracking – potentially Australia's largest gas field, with severe health, climate and environmental consequences. This grant will pressure banks to walk away – and without finance, Beetaloo can't get off the ground.

SEA OF NATIONS
Coastal community leaders from northern Australia, Indonesia and Timor-Leste are fighting offshore oil and gas expansion. This grant will fund an advocacy delegation to Japan – one of the biggest drivers of fossil fuel investment in our region, where government decisions about the region's fossil fuel future are being made.

PROJECT PLANET
In the 2025 federal election, almost 600,000 Australians used the Build a Ballot tool to plan their vote. This grant will help scale this work across the Victorian and NSW state elections, and with it, real electoral pressure for ambitious climate policy in this decisive decade.

The next Southern SAGE gathering is happening on Sunday the 10th of May from 1pm-4.30pm at the Aldinga Community Centre 🌱 Since this gathering falls on Mother’s Day, we warmly invite you to bring your mum or a special mother figure along and enjoy a relaxed, family friendly afternoon with the Southern SAGE community.

This month’s nourishing gathering will include shared food, creative/hands on activities as well as a focus around practical ways to build our community resilience. We'll be sharing resources through a Clothes Swap and a Fresh Produce stall, offering a sustainable and cost effective way to nourish our bodies and update our wardrobes.
Anyone is welcome to share a skill, teach something, or hold a conversation during the open space sessions. Whether you’re interested to contribute or are just curious to see what it’s all about, you are welcome. There’s no expectation to contribute beyond coming along. But opportunities to help organise, volunteer, or share skills will naturally emerge for those who want to be involved.

This event is free. However we would love it if you could bring a plate, snacks or non-alcoholic drink to share. Bring any clothes to share also, but no obligation. You are welcome to take whatever you like or need from the plenty of clothes on offer.

Make sure you swipe through the Instagram tiles/picture to find out more details about how the day will run.

If you have any questions please email [email protected]

*Please note, Southern SAGE is separate from and much broader than The Wild South. Until we find our own feet, The Wild South is providing some support including insurance coverage, as provided by Sustainable Communities.

Halfway between autumn equinox and winter solstice, this last weekend retreat was a beautiful time of nature connection. A time of preparing for winter and darkness and connecting with a beautiful community of women. We were out in the elements with all its unpredictability and wisdom. Perfect 💚🔥
