❓💥 Mythbusting time 💥❓
"Addiction only affects the individual using"

Addiction rarely impacts just one person.

It can affect relationships, families, children, workplaces, friendships, finances, and entire support networks. Many loved ones find themselves carrying stress, fear, confusion, and emotional exhaustion while trying to help someone they care about.

📌Families often experience anxiety and overwhelm
📌 Relationships can become strained by secrecy, conflict, or unpredictability
📌 Work, parenting, and social connections can all be impacted
📌 Loved ones frequently need support too

This is why recovery is not just about helping one person stop using substances. It's about healing communication, rebuilding trust, strengthening support systems, and helping everyone move toward a healthier future.

Addiction may affect the whole family, but recovery can too.

Today is World No To***co Day.

This year’s theme, “Unmasking the appeal: Countering ni****ne and to***co addiction,” focuses on understanding why to***co and ni****ne use can feel so compelling, especially when it’s tied to stress, routine, or emotional coping.

What often looks like habit is rarely just that.

Ni****ne addiction can become woven into daily life, used to manage stress, regulate emotions, or create moments of relief. That’s why stopping isn’t simply about willpower, it’s about understanding the role it plays and building new ways to cope.

Change doesn’t need to happen all at once. It starts with awareness, support, and small steps in a different direction.

The campaign will expose how the to***co and ni****ne industry continues to reinvent and repackage its products to hook a new generation, particularly children and adolescents, while evading stronger to***co control measures worldwide.

“I’ll sort it out after…”

After winter.
After things calm down.
After the timing feels right.

It’s a story a lot of people tell themselves.

But the cost of waiting isn’t neutral.
Each week is another week of carrying something that doesn’t need to be carried alone.

If you’ve been thinking about it, now might be closer to the right time than you think.

Three people in separate incidents have recently required emergency care because they experienced he**in overdose after using what they thought was co***ne.

He**in is an opioid that can produce life-threatening toxic effects – especially if you don’t usually use opioids

Signs of opioid overdose may include slow breathing, being difficult to wake up and tiny pupils.

Naloxone can reverse opioid overdose and is safe to use even if opioids are not present. Free naloxone is available at participating pharmacies, needle and syringe programs and Mental Health & Wellbeing Locals, as well as the Victorian Pill Testing Service and the Medically Supervised Injecting Room.

If you experience toxic drug effects, or are present when someone has an unexpected reaction, seek help immediately by calling Triple Zero (000).

"Addiction is losing oneself in the moment.
Recovery is finding oneself in the journey."

Recovery isn't about a single decision.
It's about the steps taken after, the growth that follows, and the willingness to keep going.

Winter has a way of making avoidance feel reasonable.

The colder days, shorter light, and the sense that things can wait until later.

But when it comes to addiction, waiting isn’t rest. It’s risk.

Starting treatment in winter doesn’t mean stepping into something cold or clinical.
It means stepping into support, structure, and a community of people walking a similar path.

By the time spring comes, you’re not still waiting to start.
You’re already moving forward.
