You’ve probably seen the ads on TV.

“Cheaper.” “Better.” “More caring.”

But here’s what many families aren’t being told 👇

A new model has entered the funeral industry — Google calls it “death tech.”
In simple terms… It’s the Uber-style version of funerals.
A central company takes your call — and then the actual care is often outsourced to third-party providers behind the scenes.

That can mean:
⚠️ Locations that aren’t owned or operated by the company
⚠️ No in-house mortuary
⚠️ No consistent team caring for your loved one
⚠️ Your loved one may be transferred between different providers
⚠️ Everything handled remotely, not personally

And here’s the part most people don’t realise:
They’re not always cheaper once everything is included.

At Solace, it’s simple.
💬 We are the ones who take your call.
💬 We are the ones who bring your loved one into our care.
💬 We are the ones who look after both them and you — every step of the way.
No handovers. No outsourcing. No unknowns.

With a total price is actually lower in most cases … with complete transparency from the start. This isn’t about competition. It’s about standards, transparency, and dignity.

If you or someone you love ever needs to arrange a funeral, please ask:
✔️ Where will my loved one actually be cared for?
✔️ Do you have your own mortuary?
✔️ Who is physically looking after them?
✔️ Is the price truly all-inclusive?

A funeral is not a transaction.
It’s a final act of care. A moment of honour. A reflection of a life.

❤️ Families deserve honesty.❤️ Loved ones deserve dignity.

👉 If this helped you understand something you didn’t know before, please share it — it could genuinely help another family make a more informed decision.

🌿 A Fresh Space at Solace 🌿

If you’ve driven past our Ashmore location recently, you might have noticed things looking a little greener…

Over the past week, we’ve laid brand new turf across our grounds — a small but meaningful step in creating a space that feels calm, welcoming, and a little more like home.

At Solace, we believe the environment matters just as much as the care we provide. As a family-run funeral home on the Gold Coast, we want every family who visits us to feel a sense of comfort the moment they arrive.

When people search for a funeral home Gold Coast, they’re often looking for more than a service — they’re looking for warmth, understanding, and a place that feels right. That’s exactly what we aim to create here, in every detail.

We’re really proud of how it’s come together 💚

Recently, one of our celebrants, Fiona Da Silva did something incredibly special.

After spending time with a family and learning about the life of the man they loved, Fiona went home and quietly wrote a poem for him — without being asked.

She simply felt his story deserved it.

When the poem was read during the service, it captured everything that made him who he was — his love of home, the land, the sound of kookaburras, the life he built with his hands, and the quiet strength he carried.

There were tears. There was gratitude. And there was a deep sense that he had been truly honoured.

At Solace Family Funerals, we set a very high standard for the celebrants we work with. Not just professionally — but personally. We work with people who genuinely care. People who listen deeply. People who go above and beyond because they believe every life deserves to be remembered properly.

Fiona’s poem, shared with permission, is a beautiful reflection of that care.

This morning, we had a quiet little visitor at our door — a beautiful stone curlew standing gently at the entrance of our funeral home.

There was something so still and watchful about it. No rush. No fear. Just presence.
In many cultures, birds are seen as messengers — gentle reminders that love doesn’t simply end, it changes form. Stone curlews in particular are known for their loyalty, often seen in pairs, and for their strong sense of protection over their young. They are guardians. Watchers. Keepers of space.

It felt meaningful that one would pause at our door.

In the work we do each day — walking alongside families in grief, helping tell the story of a life well lived — moments like this feel like quiet reassurance. A reminder that even in sorrow, there is connection. Even in goodbye, there is presence.

We like to think our visitor was simply checking in… making sure all was calm, all was cared for.

And it was.

Sometimes the smallest visits carry the biggest meaning 🤍

This is where it begins.

After the first conversation with a family, there’s a lot of careful, unseen work that happens quietly in the background — organising details, coordinating paperwork, and making sure every wish is understood and respected.

From that first arrangements meeting, we begin taking care of the planning and logistics, so families don’t have to carry that weight during an already difficult time.

Over the years, we’ve had an entourage of many different vehicles — prime movers, motorcycles, police escorts… you name it.

But never before had we followed a 1940s tractor.

Dennis had a lifelong love of heavy machinery, so it felt perfectly fitting that something so iconic led him on his final journey.

With the tractor out front and our old girl — our vintage 1975 hearse — following behind, it was a farewell as unique as the man himself.

A final drive, done his way.

What an honour it was to care for Keith who served our country during WWII — fighting far from our shores and far from his family.

We pause not only to recognise his service, but also the enormous sacrifice made by the families who waited, worried, and carried that burden at home while he fought in multiple worldwide campaigns.

To live beyond 100 years… imagine the changes he witnessed across a full century of history.

We are humbled to include this video of the haunting Last Post from Keith’s RSL service, beautifully played by our bugler, Scott King.

Lest we forget. 🌺

No one says goodbye more softly than a Funeral Director
The first goodbye
to the family who must leave empty-handed,
to the hugs that carry grief,
to the hands held through sleepless nights,
to the stories told in whispered comfort.

The second goodbye
To those you lovingly dress for the last time,
No hair out of place, not to much blush, all must be perfect with no exceptions. You may be the last to ever touch them. Do it with love.

The third goodbye
Closing the casket, witnessing gutteral grief of a Mother, Father, Husband, partner, wife, child, trying to console the lost, the broken, constantly asking yourself what you could have done different or better as to not feel so helpless.

The fourth goodbye
to the colleague who walks away,
burnt out, broken, or moving on.
A nod of understanding,
a wish for peace,
knowing this fight has taken its toll.

The fifth goodbye
to the version of yourself
you leave behind with every shift.
The laughter lost, the tears swallowed,
the parts of you given away
that no memorial will ever record.

The sixth goodbye
to the long hours that steal your time,
to missed dinners and forgotten birthdays,
to the life lived between breaks and coffee,
to the self-care you postpone again and again.

And the final goodbye
to the call of service itself,
when the world seems too heavy to hold,
but the heart still whispers
stay.

Because no one says goodbye more softly than a Funeral Director.
One family at a time.
One privilage at a time.
One honour at a time.
