Most people start yoga because they want to move better.

They stay because it changes everything else.

🧘 Better sleep.
🧘 Less stress.
🧘 More patience.
🧘 More energy.
🧘 A calmer mind.
🧘 A greater sense of purpose and connection.

Modern research shows yoga can help regulate the nervous system, reduce stress hormones, improve sleep quality, increase mindfulness, and boost overall wellbeing.

But the real magic is harder to measure.

It’s learning to be present.
It’s finding stillness in a busy world.
It’s creating space between life’s challenges and your reaction to them.

Many people walk into their first yoga class hoping to improve their body.

Years later, they realise yoga improved their life.

You don’t need to be flexible.
You don’t need special equipment.
You don’t need experience.

You just need to start.

Your yoga journey might begin with a single class—but it could lead to a happier, calmer, more connected version of yourself. ✨

Come and join our yoga community at First In Physio - Mondays at 5:30pm with Kristy Shannon and Wednesday at 9:15am with Desley Biffanti 🙏💆🏼‍♀️🧘‍♀️

If strength training for women was a medication, it would be one of the most prescribed treatments on the planet.

✨ Lift heavy weights and your body responds by:

🔥 Boosting metabolism
Muscle is metabolically active tissue. More muscle means you burn more energy—not just during your workout, but all day long.

😊 Improving mood and reducing stress
Strength training increases endorphins, improves dopamine regulation, and has been shown to reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression.

😴 Helping you sleep better
Women who strength train regularly often report deeper sleep, faster sleep onset, and improved recovery.

🦴 Building stronger bones
Heavy resistance training is one of the most powerful ways to increase or maintain bone density, helping protect against osteoporosis as we age.

⚖️ Supporting healthy hormones
Strength training improves insulin sensitivity, helps regulate blood sugar, supports hormonal balance, and can reduce some of the unwanted effects of chronic stress.

🏃‍♀️ Making everyday life easier
Lifting groceries. Running after kids. Climbing stairs. Weekend hikes. Everything feels easier when you’re stronger.

And no—you won’t accidentally “bulk up.”

You will:
✔️ Feel stronger
✔️ Move better
✔️ Age better
✔️ Have more confidence in what your body can do

The goal isn’t to be smaller.

The goal is to be stronger than you were last month.

Your future self doesn’t care what you bench press today. She cares whether you started.

Need help making the first step into lifting heavier weights in a safe, supportive environment under the expert eye of a physiotherapist? Call 47837284 today to join the miracle club 🙌 aka our group strength and bone builder classes.

You Track Your Pace. Your Heart Rate. Your Power.
But do you know how much force you’re actually producing?
Or whether your left and right legs are doing the same amount of work?
Most athletes have no idea.
That’s where our VALD Force Plates come in.
In less than 10 minutes, we can measure things like:
🏃 Explosive power
🦵 Left vs right leg strength and asymmetries
⚡ Jump performance
💪 Force production
📈 Fatigue and readiness to train
🚑 Recovery after injury
What’s interesting is that many runners, cyclists, CrossFit athletes and weekend warriors feel strong and balanced…
Until the data says otherwise.
Sometimes the difference between sides is 5%.
Sometimes it’s 25%.
And sometimes it’s the reason an injury keeps coming back.
Force plate testing takes the guesswork out of performance and rehabilitation.
No opinions.
No “it seems stronger.”
Just objective data that tells us exactly where you’re at and what needs work.
Because if you’re serious enough to track your training…
Why not measure the engine that’s actually doing the work?
📊 Test. Measure. Improve.
And yes, it’s surprisingly addictive seeing how high you can jump.

Things Pilates Can Help With:
✔️ Back pain
✔️ Stiffness
✔️ Balance
✔️ Core strength
✔️ Flexibility
✔️ Posture
✔️ Moving like a functional adult
❌ Finding your keys
❌ Remembering why you walked into the kitchen
❌ Getting your teenagers to clean their rooms
Sadly, Pilates does have its limits.
But when it comes to helping your body move better, feel stronger and become more resilient, it’s one of the best forms of exercise around.
The difference is that our classes aren’t run by an enthusiastic fitness instructor reading from a workout plan.
They’re taught by an Advanced Physiotherapist and Pilates Instructor who understands injuries, pain, movement, rehabilitation and performance.
That means if your knee complains, your shoulder grumbles, your back throws a tantrum, or your hips feel older than the rest of you, we know how to adapt exercises to keep you moving safely and effectively.
You’ll build strength where you need it, mobility where you’ve lost it, and confidence in what your body can do.
And while we can’t promise you’ll suddenly have a six-pack or start speaking fluent wellness influencer…
We can help you stand taller, move better, hurt less, and discover muscles you forgot existed.
The best part?
You don’t need to be fit, flexible or coordinated to start.
In fact, some of our most dedicated clients started because they were none of those things.
Come as you are.
Leave stronger than when you arrived.
(And possibly slightly surprised by how much work can be done while lying down.)

Runners will spend 3 hours researching shoes, watch 17 YouTube reviews, join 4 Facebook groups, and consult a stranger at parkrun…

Then completely ignore the fact they’ve doubled their weekly mileage and haven’t done a strength session since 2023. 😅

So how much do running shoes actually matter?

✅ They DO matter:

* Comfort matters. A shoe that feels good is usually a good choice.
* The right shoe can reduce irritation from certain injuries.
* Different shoes can make different runs feel easier or harder.
* Modern super shoes can improve race performance for many runners.

❌ They DON’T matter as much as people think:

* There is no magical injury-proof shoe.
* Gait analysis can’t reliably predict which shoe will prevent injuries.
* The “perfect” shoe won’t compensate for poor training decisions.
* Buying a new pair won’t instantly make you run like Eliud Kipchoge.

Think of running shoes like tyres on a car.

Good tyres improve comfort, grip and performance.

But if the engine is underpowered, the suspension is falling apart, and the driver hasn’t slept in three days… the tyres aren’t the main issue. 🚗

The biggest factors affecting your running are still:
🏃 Your training consistency
💪 Your strength and capacity
😴 Your recovery
📈 Sensible progression over time

So by all means, enjoy your shoe shopping (we know you will).

Just remember: the best shoe is often the one that feels comfortable, while the real performance upgrades happen in the weeks, months and years of training that nobody posts on Instagram.

🏃‍♀️ How many “running years” do you have in your legs?

Not actual years. Running years.

A runner who has been consistently training for 15 years has accumulated thousands of kilometres, countless long runs, races, recovery weeks, and adaptations. Their legs have built a resilience that simply can’t be rushed.

This matters because your “running age” often influences:

✅ How much weekly mileage your body can tolerate

✅ How many races you can recover from in a season

✅ How quickly you adapt to training

✅ Your risk of overuse injuries

One of the biggest mistakes I see is comparing yourself to runners who have decades of running experience in their legs.

That runner doing 80km per week? They may have 20 running years behind them.

That runner racing every second weekend? Their body may have spent years gradually building the capacity to handle it.

Your cardiovascular fitness can improve relatively quickly.

Your muscles adapt more slowly.

Your tendons, bones and connective tissues adapt slower still.

The limiting factor in running isn’t always your fitness. Often it’s the capacity of your tissues to tolerate load.

So instead of asking:

❌ “What mileage is everyone else running?”

Ask:

✅ “What mileage have MY legs earned the right to handle?”

The smartest training plan isn’t the one with the highest mileage.

It’s the one that matches your current running age and allows you to keep running consistently for years to come.

Because fitness is built in months.

But durable runners are built over years.

“Pilates is everywhere” these days…
But not all Pilates classes are created equal. 👀

At First In Physio, every class is run by a qualified Physiotherapist and Advanced Pilates Instructor — which means you’re not just getting a workout, you’re getting expert eyes on how your body moves.

That matters. A lot.

Because great Pilates isn’t about randomly burning your abs while lying on a reformer. It’s about:
✨ Building real strength from the inside out
✨ Improving posture and body awareness
✨ Preventing injuries before they happen
✨ Supporting recovery from pain, injury or surgery
✨ Moving better in sport, work and everyday life
✨ Feeling stronger, more flexible and more confident in your body

The difference with Physio-led Pilates?
Every exercise has a purpose. Every progression is intentional. Every modification is based on anatomy, biomechanics and YOUR body — not a one-size-fits-all class.

So whether you’re:
✔️ Returning from injury
✔️ Wanting to get stronger safely
✔️ Managing aches and pains
✔️ Cross-training for sport
✔️ Or just wanting to feel amazing in your body again…

…you’re in expert hands.

This isn’t just Pilates.
It’s intelligent movement coaching backed by years of clinical expertise. 💫

📍Individualised attention
📍Evidence-based programming
📍Results you can actually feel

Your body carries you through life. Train it well.

For years, force plate technology was something you’d only find in elite sport — used by professional athletes to measure performance, reduce injury risk and guide return-to-play decisions.

Now? That same technology is available right here in our clinic at First In Physio.

Using our VALD Force Plates, we can accurately measure how your body moves, produces force, balances and absorbs load — giving us real data about your unique strengths, weaknesses and asymmetries.

From our developing Adolescent Athletes chasing performance goals…
To runners returning from injury…
To the legends in our Falls & Balance classes wanting to stay strong, steady and independent…

This technology helps us:
✔️ Identify hidden imbalances
✔️ Track progress objectively
✔️ Measure recovery after injury
✔️ Guide training and rehab with precision
✔️ Give you real-time feedback you can actually SEE

No guesswork. No “I think it’s improving.”
We can measure it.

Because better data = better rehab, better training and better outcomes.

If you’ve ever wanted to understand how your body is really functioning — or take your rehab and performance to the next level — now’s the time.
