𝗡𝗔𝗜𝗗𝗢𝗖 𝗔𝗦𝗦𝗘𝗠𝗕𝗟𝗬
Thank you to all who attended our short assembly today to celebrate 50 years of NAIDOC.
At Rivergums, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives are part of the everyday life of our school. Classes explore ASTI histories, cultures and texts to develop an understanding and respect of culture. This is strengthened through experiences across English, HASS, Science, The Arts and Physical Education.
Learning about the world's oldest continuous cultures helps all of our students develop respect, understanding and a deeper appreciation of the Country on which we live, learn and play. It also reminds us that reconciliation is not something that happens for one week each year - it is something we all contribute to through our everyday actions, our learning and our relationships.
From identifying our buildings with the Noongar names for plants and animals, the Indigenous Cultural games in our morning fitness program, Koorliny, which means 'move' in Noongar language, to the streamed spelling groups called Bilya, which means 'river', our students are reminded of the powerful message that Aboriginal culture and language are valued and belong here every day.
