❤️June is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month 💚

🍎 Bowel cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting Australians, with around 300 people diagnosed every week and sadly, 100 lives lost each week to the disease. Around 1 in 13 Australians will develop bowel cancer in their lifetime, and alarmingly, it often starts without any symptoms.
Bowel cancer can affect anyone, regardless of age, lifestyle, or family history. The good news is that over 90% of bowel cancers can be successfully treated when detected early. Knowing the signs and getting checked when something doesn’t feel right is so important.

🗓️ This month is an opportunity to raise awareness across our community, encourage open conversations, and remind Australians of the signs and symptoms of bowel cancer and the importance of regular screening for early detection and prevention.

❤️ For ages 50+ Take your bowel cancer screening test when it arrives
💚 Know the signs and symptoms
❤️ Encourage family and friends to get screened

☀️ Overexposure to UV light from the sun causes 95% of melanomas. The best way to prevent melanoma is to protect your skin from UV damage by following a few simple steps:

☂️ Seek shade where possible
👒 Wearing protective head wear such as wide brimmed hats
🧴 Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 50+ every 2 hours and after swimming or exercise
🕶️ Wear sunglasses

👩‍⚕️Early detection is key! Be sure to get those suspicious spots checked!
